What Area In/around Bangkok Has The Worst Traffic ?

IMO, Ladprao is the worst.

I hate it when I tell the Taxi I want to go to Ladprao, they just shake their head and drive off. Isn't that kind of rude ? I don't understand their mentality. So what if the traffic is bad, they're getting paid regardless.

I would have been happy to even pay them more than the meter if they would just ask for it but like I said most just drive off when they hear Ladprao. If I'm by myself I wouldn't mind taking Motocycle Taxi but with wife and 2 kids and 4-5 bags of wife's shopping stuff, what are you gonna do.

I can understand bad traffic jams in Lardprao. But why Asoke and Sukhumvit? Aren't these 2 areas being serviced by 2 mass transit train lines?

Asoke is certainly at the top of my list. I spend 30-45 min most evenings stuck in the traffic there. Although there is a BTS and MRT there, it's major intersection so attracts much congestion.

Also, the BIB seem to make the traffic worse by playing silly-buggers with the traffic light control switch.

Taxis get paid more for distance traveled on the meter, as opposed to time spent not moving.

In my opinion, just about everywhere in Bangkok has horrible traffic.

Not always and it's nothing to do with anyone's menthality. If he is due to return the car (they rent them in 12 hours time slots) he has to pay a fine if he is late. Traffic or no traffic. Same the world over. Good that he took you on at all.

Tell them airport, no traffic jam, tollway and they may reject you. He can't get back on time or after 2 hours wait at the airport next customer may take him who knows where.

Ram Intra out to Minburi in evening rush hour. What is a 30 minute trip in, can take 1 1/2 hours going back out.

I do agree the Asok/Sukhumvit instersection is pretty bad. Have waited 9 cycles of the light on Friday 7:00 PM to make the left on to Sukhumvit..

Given enough time, I reckon the whole of bangkok could be covered on this thread. How about that sathorn to tonburi trek over the bridge at rush hour?

Years ago the BMA spent a lot of money to put in a system where traffic lights were timed. They put this expensive system in place for one week and it became obvious to the many police that an automatic system would mean many traffic cops would be out of work. It was announced soon after by the BMA, after spending the money, that automating traffic lights wouldn't work in Bangkok.

For me the worst place for Bangkok traffic is wherever I am.
