What would you recommend for someone whose needs are for something which will combine the following

- a mobile telephone (can be as elementary in its functions as it wants)

- something that can sync itunes from a mac and play via earphones or external speakers

- has the contacts and memo functions of a palm (and ideally works with a keyboard rather than a stylus)

- will - or can be easily adapted to - sync with a mac (and apple time capsule backer upper)

the above are important specs, it would be nice to also have a built in camera.

I'd be prepared to buy this in Europe if it's unavailable in Thailand provided it'll work without hang ups here.

Appreciate all suggestions - but please without complex techno details which will almost certainly flummox me.

And for years now I'd ruled out blackberries because they were not synchable with mac - so I believed. Is the compatibility a recent feature and is it completely straightforward as an iphone I suppose would be ? If so the keyboard would tend me to the blackberry. iphone is tied to tru move; is blackberry tied to ais or dtac or ??

Would your contact's prices be better than europe (where i'll be quite soon) ? Would there be any disadvantages re warranties etc buying through your friend or buying in europe? can you tell me a site where i can look into this ?

apologies for the plethora of questions

Get an iPhone. Buy it from True for full price, BHT 24,500, it comes unlocked and with no strings attached, you can use it on DTAC out of the box.

It's a fantastic phone, I don't think there is anything quite like it. I am discovering more and more things too, and now you can see me doing something on my phone nearly all the time to the point where it's ridiculous. Example, I typed "Ko Chang" into Google Maps app, set it to "directions from where I am now" and drove from Bangkok to Ko Chang without knowing the way and without any hiccups, and on the fastest route. If you know Thai roads, or have been to Bangkok, that's no mean feat.

In San Francisco, I typed a business name in, and it gave me the route on public transportation complete with bus departure times. I use it as an iPod all the time. I use the web browser all the time, as well as email, tweetie, and most other functions. I also use it as WiFi scanner and even as speed tester in public WiFi locations....

I think the Blackberry won't sync with the Mac unless you buy a third party sync software program (i.e. "Missing Sync").

You are close to convincing me. How efficient and 'friendly' is the on-screen keyboard? I assume the itunes sync function with my macbook will work as seamlessly and in similar/identical fashion as on the ipod. So the choice of phone companies is true or dtac but not ais? what sort of memory does it have (I tend to carry quite a number of podcasts or music at any given time)? How good is the camera? Is there a memo/notes function?

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. For me the winning feature of the blackberry was chiefly the qwerty keyboard.
