Cabinet gives green light to designate Pattaya as special tourism zone

The Cabinet has approved the designation of Pattaya and the adjacent areas as special tourism zones according to the Ministry of Sports and Tourism's proposal.

Deputy government spokesman Suphalak Khuanha stated that the ministry has assigned the Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism Administration to draft the administrative plan for the development of the designated zones in accordance with the government's policy on domestic tourism development.

Mr Suphalak said Pattaya City drew 4.48 million foreign tourists and generated the revenue of 60 billion baht or 10 percent of the national domestic tourism revenue in 2007. It was expected that the city would generate the annual revenue amounting to 300 billion baht in 2017 if it was well managed.

Oh well....Lots of words that have absolutely no substance...what exactly is a special tourism zone ??....increase the dual pricing, increase the price of beer, increase hotel prices... :o:D

expected that the city would generate the annual revenue amounting to 300 billion baht in 2017 if it was well managed.

That is one massive IF! :o

Along with : peace in the middle east can be achieved IF both sides agree.

Thoughts of a casino, horse racing, asia disneyland and a brothel the size of Central Festival could be on the cards here.

A term like special tourism zone just gives the authorities more wriggle room when it comes to charging for licences etc....

How nice that an area designated as a pollution zone, should now be designated a special tourism zone.

The regional hub of pollution and tourism... :o:D ....thought it was already

I think you got it on the first try, sir. :o

Wouldn't that be so much more convenient for the Bangkok upper crust than driving all the way to Cambo? :D

And they could rationalize it to the nation by saying it's only there for the convenience of the tourists?

Built for the good of the country at a time of economic slowdown?
