I got fed up with TOT's part-time internet service, so switched to TT&T's new 5MB package - 1000B per month. Got connected today and was happy to see that I do actually get 5MB to the exchange, and around 4300 kbps to Thaivisa. Speedtests to London and San Francisco also gave results of around 4300 kbps. Latency seems high - 100ms up to 500ms to the same destinations (I don't know how that compares with other services). TT&T are really pushing their new packages in this area, so maybe they are a bit overwhelmed with subscribers at the moment, or maybe that is all I will get on the Indy package. Might upgrade to Premier in the future. I was also interested to see what my router/modem reported as the 'attainable' speed: 23216 kbps (see attached screenshot). I know real-world internet 'speed' depends on many factors, but maybe the future in Thailand is fast... just maybe... :o

Well, my new TT&T connection seems to be a case of chips and beans.

TOT was slow, up and down like a bridesmaid's etc, but port 25 was open and FTP was fine.

TT&T is fast, up 100%, but port 25 is blocked and FTP is up the spout.

I don't know what to do:

option A: laugh

option B: cry

option C: fork out for the Premier package (I am on Indy)

Anyone else on TT&T getting blocked on port 25?

Can anyone on Premier confirm that port 25 is open and FTP ok? Is this in small print anywhere?

I called support, but I am not holding my breath. I can use smtp.tttmaxnet.com but I'd rather connect to my own mail server (will ask for additional SMTP port to be configured perhaps).

I'm on Maxnet Premier, and smtp used to be blocked but is open now, although if I have to send big attachments I still use TT&T's smtp server.

On premier your upload is 1 Mbps, so big attachments to their smtp servers simply fly out!

It's indeed a fact that on the Indy packages they block certain ports/protocols, but not so on Premier.

Also latency is much lower on Premier. Thaivisa is around 60 msec, USA around 200 msec...

Latency to the USA of between 150 and 250 msec is perfectly normal, it's simply distance!

Personally, I'd rather have 3 Mbps on Premier then 5 Mbps on Indy, although I do pay around 2,200 Baht/month for 3 Mbps/1 Mbps...

Thanks monty. I agree:

I'd rather have 3 Mbps on Premier then 5 Mbps on Indy

My latency to UK/US is around 500ms. Think I will try and switch.
