Maybe it has something to do with the fact that contrary to the PAD crowd, vastly composed of old ladies, middle class housewives coming with their kids (and their self-indulgence) at the sittings and other wanke_rs who don't actually need to work to make a living and therefore can afford to come clap their little clappers ad eternum, the reds are mostly working class peoples who, as crazy as it sounds for a Bangkok hiso, have to work in order to pay the bills at the end of the month.

Then how can they afford to take time off to come to Bangkok?

Most can not or the numbers would be much higher. The Yellow shirts that make their living from corruption and the exploitation of people working for 200 baht per day can spend forever taking over airports, government house, ect. That is why the PAD's idea of democracy is based on the poor people are too stupid to vote. In a true democracy including the poor and the rich the majority would rule and the PAD would be history.

Especially in light of UDD Leader Jatuporn saying this rally was going to last "at least a month" and even "a year" if necessary in order to achieve it's goal.

City's losses tripled under Thaksin

Manchester City Football Club's losses nearly tripled and its net assets shrank by more than half while the club was owned by Thaksin Shinawatra.

The dramatic fall in the asset value, from £57.2m to £24.5m, was caused mainly by a £50m splurge on new players.

Newly filed group accounts for Manchester City Ltd show a pre-tax loss of £32.6m the year to May 31, 2008, nearly three times the £11m loss posted a year earlier.

The accounts cover the one and only full season during which City was controlled by Thaksin, who sold a 90 per cent stake to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan's Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd in September last year for a reported £210m.

Shortly before he sold the club, Thaksin was forced to flee Thailand and last October he was convicted of corruption by the Thai supreme court and sentenced in his absence to two years in jail.

Thaksin was expected to seek political asylum in the UK but in November he was banned from returning here and now divides his time between homes in Dubai and Hong Kong. In February he was removed as honorary president of Manchester City,a new post created for him at the time of the sale to Abu Dhabi United Group.

The size of the club's losses during the 2007/08 season is an indication that owning a Premier League club was probably unsustainable for Thaksin, a former telecoms entrepreneur who had £1.18bn of his wealth frozen by the Thai authorities after he was deposed as prime minister in a 2006 military coup.

You must have me confused with some sort of bot or RSS newsfeed.

Some of my friends ( not mongers) just canceled their trip after Thailand being all over the news in the UK again today

The political situation in Thailand remains very uncertain. Major political demonstrations have been taking place in Bangkok, with outbreaks of violence. A major rally by opposition supporters is taking place in central Bangkok around Government House. There are approximately 10,000 demonstrators camped at Government House. Tens of thousands more protestors are expected to join the rally on 8 April. There is a risk that the protest could turn violent. You are advised to avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place. You should continue to exercise caution when travelling around Bangkok and other towns/cities, avoiding any demonstrations or large gatherings of people. If you plan to visit Thailand you should consider the present situation when making your decision. If you are in Thailand you should keep yourself informed of developments, including by regularly checking this advice and the media. See the Terrorism/ Security, Political Situation and Local Travel sections for more details.

I don't see Sriracha John nor Rush limbaugh saying that they are jounalists, unlike FOX news that pretends they are a news station. Since SJ is not a journalist he does not need the be fair and balance about anything, i doubt anyone here is truely fair and balanced on any issue. It's a forum, people speak their minds and when people do that they pick sides, and when you pick sides you can't be balanced, right?

Hello Joe, we are on a forum and thus allowed to give personal opinions. That is how I personally read this whole thread. As personal opinions and observations from fellow human beings. If everyone reads it that way than the threads could become a bit more peaceful.

I understand that most of us have their knickers in a twist. Whether you're red, yellow, white, green or blue we all have a connection with Thailand and we all want the best for Thailand in our own way.

Just respect others opinions and observations. This is a forum, not a news site. No credibility has to be given to any observation or opinion. But please respect them!

What on Earth are you continually baiting about?

You expect someone to post every news article that comes down the pike on both sides of an issue? It's not going to happen.

What news have you contributed to the Forum?

If you have an opposing opinion from mine, then feel free to post news that supports your stance. That's true for every member on the board. If you're unsure how to do so, PM younghusband and ask him. I already explained to him how to do so when he came up with similar outlandish comments.

Just saw Hard Talk. I can only say that Abhisit is not an idiot, he answered straight to the point, had clear ideas about the future of his country, and even clear ideas about ASEAN, IMHO a PM every country will be proud of.

2nd - He took the interviewers punches well, explained them from his perspective, and layed out his visions. Too bad it wasn't Samak up there, drooling and ranting like an imbecile. Or better yet - Charlerm!!!!!

All the wannabe Reds are out tonight - lets see if any of them will dare to answer the only pertinent question.

Who do you want as PM? Abhisit or Charlerm? Those are your only choices, and you have to pick one. Can you answer the question honestly?

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for your source for any report saying that the Shinawatra's "fled" as opposed to "left" or "departed" - which is all I have seen.

Thaksin's kids, Potjaman flee

Thaksin Shinawatra's children, former wife and brother-in-law Somchai Wongsawat left Thailand just before the red-shirts began their mass anti-government rally.

Younghusband was banned - thank god. I'm sure one of his reincarnations is here though, annoying us to this day.... JoeinSurin is trying to ice skate uphill attacking SJ. SJ does a great job, and posts lots of news that most of us appreciate a great deal. If you don't appreciate it, or want to introduce your own - post some.

The words "flee" and "fled" don't appear in the article or the title of the article. The word "flee" only appears in the name that Maejo Man used to refer to the link to the article. The title of the article is "Thaksin's family leave Thailand".

Conflicting reports on the banned from politics former First Lady Yaowapha... fled the country or at the Red stage???? :o

Since when is the wife of an PM a First lady, by my knowledge they don't call her like that in any country, most of the time they are completely at the background and almost never seen in public.

Anyhow this is the case in Continental Europe.

In Thailand... there have been at 2 recent First Ladies seen as being the real decision-makers and deal-brokers with PM husbands... Potjaman and Yaowapa.

How to make it real easy for you? Since we are lucky enough in this country to have a Queen, there are NO commoner "First Ladies", never were and never will be.

Just watched a download of it - agree completely. She really tried to throw everything at him and he had clear answers to everything she quizzen him on. From boat people to protestors, his appoitment, millitary, ecconomy, his appointments in the cabinet and so on.

I like when she said "You haven't been tested by General Election though have you?" and he replied "Neither has Gordon Brown". On the coalition, he said what about Belgium and Israel?

"Why are you only giving 3.4Billion to help the ecconomy - Indonesia is giving 16B?"

"We will give more but we have run up against the legal limits. We are working on it right now."

"If its a law why not just change it?"

"We are. That's exactly what we are doing"

I think he was very good, and has obviously thought about, and has plans for, just about every thing she could throw at him. No waffle, no vague answers and no avoiding the questions. If only the British politicians were so open!

The parts you mentioned are also the ones I enjoyed the most during the whole interview.

Is there anybody who didn't think "what if this was Samak" when watching it? :o The timing is also quite convenient - adds some much needed balance to the situation being reported.

Yes, I watched it a second time, when my wife got home. He looked nervous, but handled himself extremely well. My wife had a few choice words for the woman interviewing PM Abhisit. (I think she would have gone and beat her up, if she was in Thailand) lol... Started talking about foreigners having no respect for Thailand and how rude it was to keep cutting the PM off.

I felt the interviewer was really on the offensive against Abhisit and his government, under the circumstances, PM Abhisit did really well, I think.

The programme is called Hardtalk, geddit?

Actually Abhisit got an easy ride (I have already posted on this) and Zeina Badawi was tough but polite.Did I detect a batsqueak of sexual attraction there by the way?

But your wife's comment is interesting.Thais of high status aren't used to intense questioning without freaking out.Abhisit was a bit petulant but he knows English intellectual/upper class culture backwards. He know how to play the game.

And yes I'm proud he's Thailand's PM.

I also caught Abhisit on Hardtalk's 9:30 replay. Why do I think of him as Thailand's Obama, representing the change that Thailand needs so badly? Why does Thaxin remind me of Hitler?

I really liked what Abhisit had to say, in the short times between interruptions by the striking female interviewer. I suppose her aggressive questioning is the Hardtalk style, but it reminds me too much of the disrespectful treatment dished out to his guests by the likes of O'Reilly on FoxNews. Larry King on CNN would have let Abhisit talk, which he does very well indeed in English, and probably even better in Thai.

Most Thais don't realize the value of a PM like Abhisit. Didn't they see the photo on the front page of Bkk. Post last week, and in vernacular rags as well, of Abhisit's handsome face right behind Obama at the G-20 summit meeting? I imagine Abhisit made a number of valuable contacts with other world leaders, that could help Thailand in future, if he's still around.

Thaksin understands the value of English too. He keeps speaking next to his little sign, "Thailand Needs Change" when he rouses the rabble. (Sorry, no disrespect intended, just a play on words) A little English lends credence, respectability, believability (?), even "very fashion", to his self-serving rants.

Here's a fantasy we will never see: An American-style series of political campaign debates between candidates Abhisit and Thaksin. As in America, three debates are held. Two of them are, of course, in Thai. The third debate is to be held in English, to show off, on CNN etc., how modern, globalized, educated, civilized, and generally full of face on the internatiional scene the Thais are nowadays. Who might win that debate?
