Ladies, Do You Pamper Yourself?

Featured Replies

I have to admit to being pretty much of a non-pamperer. I've never had a manicure or a pedicure (shocking but true) and the only facial I've ever had was at the spa where my sister gave me a gift certificate for my birthday.

I do admit to spending money on myself, but usually its clothes, hair (I do spend money on a good stylist), and bags and shoes. I love bags and shoes. :o

We don't have a bathtub but when I go to Bangkok I always make sure to get a hotel with a bath so I can take a nice long soaky bath. But, other than that, I just never pamper myself.

What do you do to pamper yourself?

I love perfume and i also spend money on clothes, seriously i have got a problem with shoes. I can't find ones that got styles i really like :o

So shoppaholic would be one of the habits.

hmmmm I do eat to pamper myself. I love cake, jelly, chocolate and some others sweeties. :D

but honestly, I don't gain any weighs. I'm so skinny. I think i become an anorexic....oiii

and another thing is manicure :D I like it but i don't do it often.

I have never had a manicure. Only a pedicure and a facial twice in total. Hair taming treatments many, otherwise here in Thailand I look like a cave woman.. I usually have a day dedicated to economy DIY grooming sessions which include long and boring epilating and cold waxing time..wish I was a man during those times..

my friends always talk about pampering themselves; i just dont know how. i hate shopping , waxing, facials and all that stuff although my best friend is a cosmetics- whatever its called in english- person--she offerred to do a face massage w/o all the other stuff... havent done it yet...

i guess buying a new fish for the aquariam or something for the dogs is the closest thing to pampering; maybe buying a book in english. bought myself two rings in two years, not expensive but i like them. thats about it.

i dont know how to not work either; not a workaholic but dont know how to vacations either.

i never did in the states but everything is so cheap here.... i get at least one massage per week. i occasionally do manicures and pedicures. i get my eyelashes dyed. i don't really see the point of facials, i can do them myself at home. and i don't wax, so there's that. thailand does bring out the girlie in me that i hadn't realized existed before though!

One thing I don't see highly of hubby in this department. It should be the other way around. But hubby always worry how he looks; a gray hair or a line on his forhead enough to send him to a facial saloon. He is the regular there once a month. He's been going there almost 10 years now, once in a blue moon I would join him on this trip. I only do it when I feel like it ( which is not very often) or have to attend some wedding or other social function.

When I'm back in BKK, I do enjoy a long massage and shampoo the Thai style service, about 15 years ago, I stop going for a manicure & pedicure, the word 'AIDS' scares me.

I love soaking myself in the jaguzy for hours. :o

Pedicures!! I love em, but its really about the massage. I will be getting many a massage when we get there. Too expensive here to get one with any frequency!

drinking wine? :o

I did not notice that ou had yr eyelashes dyed. it looks so natural. oh maybe becos they fit wif yr hair color too :D

I've also never had a manicure or pedicure. Don't really like massage, unless I really trust the person giving it. Not a shopper, either. Boring, I know... :D

If the weather's nice I'll get my husband to keep the kids and I'll take a book to read at the pool for a couple of hours. Or if I can't do that, I'll make a cup of tea and lock myself in my room and read.

With two little boys, any time to myself is pampering. I don't really want people poking and prodding me with stuff. Being left alone and quiet is the best relaxation ever.

We're moving in two weeks to a house with not one, but TWO bathtubs! I can't wait! :o

Cheers,

I do saunas and body treatments. When I was in Thailand I went to spas. Here in Korea I go to the jjimjilbang, a sauna/public bath thing with an array of hot soaks, special saunas, and areas to scrub your skin down for hours. I love to smell good and have really, soft, velvety skin.

I get frequent traditional massages but in most cases I don't see it as pampering but rather as necessary teartment (my aching back!)

Foot massages on the other hand, which I klove, are a treat, and a very stress-relieivng one at that

Occasional manicure and pedicure, would do more often if there were anyplaces nearby me but there aren't. I like them but niot to the extent of traveling for them.

Then my big indulgence, although like the massges a semi-necessity, was to go to a great deal of trouble to import a "Spa-n-aBox" and install it in my garden shed. A portable jacuzzi, the type you fill with a garden hose, nothing nice to look at but, unlike all the spas/jacuzzis I found on sale in Thailand, seriously functional: nice and hot and plenty of strong swirling water. Just the thing after a day of hard yard work.... I climb on in, put on soothing music, if I'm really feeling like a treat light some scented candles, dim the lights and relax as all the aches and paions and cares drift away

Yes!

I never blow dry my hair myself, for 80 baht it's done perfectly for me and it's on the way home from the gym.

I have a weekly manicure and pedicure for 100 baht each.

I wish I had more time for massages as I run a lot and they certainly help the sore muscles but I manage to get one about every 6 weeks. 250 baht

I spend a fortune on my hair cut and highlights every 6 weeks (about 4000) and also getting my legs/bikini line waxed (about 2000)

I get a facial when I have time...about every 6 weeks at the most (about 1000)

I love being in Thailand where pampering oneself is so affordable! Why wouldn't you really?

However, the above is just maintenance at the end of the day.

My real indulgence is handbags! But I do think a great handbag can make a cheap and comfortable cotton singlet and jeans look great...or even casual shorts and flip flops.

I would be more into shoes but the pavements here are awful so for an evening out I stick to one of three pairs of "sensible heels" (if there is such a thing) ie not strappy stillettos. Ankle boots or similar are good....the handbags make up for not being able to vary my footwear as much as I'd like to...

Mini makeovers at the cosmetics counter in department stores also serve to make me feel "pampered"

Just have to remember not to take home the big tell-tale shopping bags for Mr Ausadyinpatong to see!

Ausladyinpatong, you have got it down pat!

god, i did it all. regular massages, facials, waxing, and pedicures. loved it. i dont like manicures, as my nails are soft as paper, and not so nicely shaped, so i would rather them be untouched.

i think splurging on a nice meal every now and then is good, and the gold class movies are the only way to go!

a decent glass of wine every now and then is always a good thing, and a lovely sunday brunch is also great.

Couldn't agree with you more Donna..and the best part is if you've kept up with the pampering/maintenance bit someone might be inclined to take you out for the wine and the nice meal!

By the way, have to say thanks for your tips in the past re West One Salon and Perfection Spa...listen to Donna ladies she really knows the places to go in Phuket.

Hope Bali is treating you well.

Cheers!

wow, sounds great, where did you get that???

i have a friend who when she comes to thailand spends the first couple days scheduling back to back beauty treatments. she does everything- hair extensions/dyeing/straightening, tattoed eyeliner and eyelash extensions (she even has fake colored contacts), tattoed lipliner, facials, microdermabrasion, botox, and other treatments that i can't even pronounce and am not sure what they are! she gets massages, spas, waxing, teeth bleaching, lasers off her aging spots... everything you can possibly imagine except i don't think she has gotten lipo or plastic surgery yet (wouldn't surprise me if she did though). thailand is a beauty treatment connoisseur's dream!

Tthe saunas in South Korea sound wonderful, are they anything like Japanese baths?

You don't have to signal a social conscience by looking like a frump. Lace knickers won't hasten the holocaust, you can ban the bomb in a feather boa just as well as without, and a mild interest in the length of hemlines doesn't necessarily disqualify you from reading Das Kapital and agreeing with every word. ~Elizabeth Bibesco

  • 2 weeks later...

This all sounds so nice...

I am down to earth (raised up in Holland :o:D ) and most of the time I do all of these girlie things myself. But I should go more often to a masseuse/ pedicure/ manicure, and just relax and enjoy. Good for me, good for the one taking care of me.

Oh! I pamper myself with delicious organic healthy food & drinks. Smoothies, salads, sweets made of 100% dried fruits.

And as I will be in BKK in April & May...I will shop for beautiful beads, clothes, shoes etc...

I dont know why really, but im not a fan of facials or beauty treatments much. Ive had 2 facials in my life. First one a birthday gift voucher from my best friend, so went along, but hated all that lying about and cold stuff etc on my face. 2nd time was a trip to Budapest at a Spa Hotel, so took advantage of some of the treatments on offer (including a body mud pack! Omg..talk about messy! :o). This time the facial was brutal, where she squeezed and pushed at my skin..never again, no thank you!

Anyway, here in Thailand, i do like the occasional foot massage. Miss a bath like crazy, so if i get the opportunity I try book a hotel with a bath if i go away anywhere. I really just do basic beauty stuff at home, i think i know my own skin better than a beautician anyway. I pamper myself by giving myself time that i never had much of before. Time to relax in the sun, time to relax by the pool, time to snooze for a bit, time to relax with a book. Basically, for me, my general calm day to day life in Thailand (at least at the moment), IS pampering myself, when i compare it to my life before. I feel very lucky.

:o

I agree with you tinkelbell.....a thai style shampoo is tops.....doesn't hurt my neck. I don't do manicure/pedicure for the same reason you don't. My salon only soaks utensils in alcohol for 15 minutes.....no autoclave as required in U.S.
