i think i misunderstand this...does this mean i can't get a drink in a bar after 9pm on a fri, sat and sun?...ever again? is this for real. if it is i'll never come to thailand again...

Personly I think the Mormons are taking over.

Monday is to become the new Friday

They must close the doors after shoving y'all out by the set hour like in UK.

It is invocation of Sharia Law Level One, in a secret deal with Songkla to stop the fighting.

All the girls at Nana will wear head scarves, but will take them off for 500 baht.

10% to the Lt. Col. of the district and 40% to the house.

George - excellent post, and very effective for the day!

Crocodilexp - disagree on it being a bad one, I think it was brilliant, given the idea is to get people to eompletely buy into it. Seems to have worked a charm.

As an over-40 myself, I kind of like the idea of being employable. :D

LOL!

:D :D :o

As ever George - excellent and timely resporting

Where is the problem? Let us make Saturday and Sunday a work day. So during the week we can start drinking early. 5 Minutes before dead line we can fill the boot (and back seats) of our car, carry the stuff back home and continue consumption...

If we invite entire Thai families for this, they can get drunk TOGETHER and so achieve a merry family life.

Once the husbands and fathers are drunk we have the right line for the wives and daughters. Everyone female above age 40 is locked up at massage saloons; this clears the street from something we do not want anyway.

I support the idea 100 % :o

Songkran alcohol ban canned, crackdown on alcohol postponed to April 16

BANGKOK: -- The Thai government has postponed the proposed alcohol ban during the Songkran festivals. The National Committee for Alcohol Consumption Control yesterday canned the no alcohol ban during the traditional Thai new year from April 13 to 15.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart, found that a alcohol sales ban during Songkran would further harm the tourism industry.

"The meeting decided the ban would have a bad impact on tourism, particularly on Songkran day, which draws over 150,000 foreign tourists," Maj Gen Sanan said.

Alcohol crackdown to start April 16

The Committee has become alarmed at the deterioration of family values and family unity. One of the main evils of this problem is alcoholic beverages. The new proposal will require bars, convenience stores and entertainment centers that serve alcohol to adjust their closing times as follows:

All bars, shops and entertainment centers will closed based on a sliding window. Mondays close at 1:00AM, Tuesday 12:00 Midnight, Wednesday 11:00PM, Thursday 10:00 PM and Fridays at 9:00PM. Saturdays, Sundays and all official holidays, alcoholic beverages will not be allowed to be sold.

"The sliding window will reduce the problems with sudden alcohol withdrawal and allow family members to be able to spend more time with each other. Saturdays and holiday closures will improve Thai tourism and family outings", says Boonlert Sukaparpraeng, consumption controller at the Department of Culture.

The sliding window could be different in various provinces allowing the creation of many jobs for coach and minibus companies to ferry foreigners around to the correct province to fit in with the well established pattern of Immigration decentralized offices, recently enforced by the Immigration Bureau.

Foreigners holding a valid work permit or residency will still be able to purchase alcohol in so called Mom'n'Pop shops during the prohibited hours.

"This is typical for the Democrat Party", says Somchai Duemlaukaeng, Deputy chairman at the Consumer Protection board. "Thai people has one of the highest alcohol consumption pattern in the world per capita". This will only increase the sales of Lao Khao in the provinces."

Massage parlour minimum age

On April 16, another controversial law is being enforced. After that date, massage parlors can no longer employ anyone under the age of 40, and are required to register all employees as such. This will minimize the request by customers for "extra services" which can cause problems with marriages and minor wives.

This is another example of useless legislation brought to you by ineffective politicians who think they must at least prove that they are still awake and on the job. While it is true that alcohol is a major problem, wouldn't it make a LOT more sense to arrest public drunks and enforce existing drunk driving laws? Has it ever occurred to the politicians that to reduce the highway carnage, you have to get the drunks off the road?

I thought Chamlong was now out of sight but it appears he is still crusading for prohibition and is determined to uphold his high moral values. He would be a lot more effective if he were to be a corruption watch dog. If that were the case, he wouldn't be around long because the corrupt politicians would have him quickly killed. Folly upon folly. It is for sure, AMAZING Thailand.

The government is also requiring all food shops andresturaunts to only open one day a week in each district, this would ensure that all inter city taxi and bus services are used to capacity. To ensure full employment for the hospitals it is a requirement that all operators of transport vehicles have a a blood alcohol reading above 0.08 at all times.

Hi.

Sadly it's only an april's fool joke.... but i am all FOR a blanket-ban on alcohol. No need to have the bars/pubs close, just let them serve non-alcoholic beverages.

I haven't been drunk for some 15 years or more and am still alive... strange, isn't it?

Kind regards.....

Thanh

PS no i didn't have a massage either.

Thai Visa April 1 update.

Cheers guys.

You've given me a giggle.

If it was funny I would have liked to have seen a release by the Dems on this wondrous day as

"We have investigated and found that 634 drunk drivers die every Songkran festival.

But, hey, for an extra 15,567,983 USD of tourist bucks we think it's well worth it.
