Making & Receiving Skype Calls Without A Computer - Telephone Connected To Adsl Router

Featured Replies

Is there anywhere in Phuket that sells Skype Certified phones that connect direct to my ADSL Router? I currently use Skype on my PC, but want to be able to have a 'normal' phone, that is not dependent on my PC being on (or me sat at it!).

If they are available in Phuket, any recommendations would also be worth knowing.

Hope somebody can help?

Thanks.

If you have problems locating it in Phuket, they are available on-line. Example here > Desktop Internet Phone

The Amazon price is $79.99

heres a link to Certified Skype products at EBAY

BTW will Skype online shop ever become available in Thailand...?

Any mobile phone with wi-fi will do. Just download and install Fring. Use Nokia E71 myself and works very well.

With fring you can also use Skype, MS, Yahoo etc to chat.

You can use iPhone!

Serious!Company Linksys produce internet/skype phone, which is called "iPhone".

there is model iPhone CIT-300,which requires your comp to be on

and another model iPhone CIT-400,which works with your ADSL modem only ,comp can be off.

They are modern cordless phones in fact, with the range - 50mtrs,full name is:"Dual Mode Internet Telephony Kit" made by Linksys.

CIT-300 is less then 100$,CIT-400 is about 150$.They were available in LOS;characteristic blue boxes, like their routers.

Similar devices are made by Belkin and Shirio, but without glamorous "iPhone" name.I am using "original iPhone"from Linksys, mostly in cordless mode,

because they do not have video display! What a pitty!

Hi

Thanks to everybody that has replied to my original post - I think I have opened a can of worms for myself and have now got more questions than answers!!!!

I love the look of the CIT-400 (thanks borovik) - now if I could find that somewhere in Thailand (preferably Phuket) I would like to buy that, because I think it does exactly what I want it to do?

However, if I am going to pay that sort of money, do I look at buying a new mobile phone (currently have Sony Ericsson K750i - so not wifi). Thanks to Webfact and MJo for the info about mobile phones. I think this is where I have more questions - lets say I bought a new phone (e.g. Nokia E71), would this be able to connect to my wireless router that I have in the house. If that is the case, would this mean that I connect to the internet for free? Would I just use the AIS sim card that I currently use in the Sony Ericsson (i.e. just buy the cards at 7/11 to top up).

As I have a 'skype in' telephone number, friends / family that don't have access to the internet can ring me from their landline phones in UK. If I download fring / skype - would I have to pay anything to receive these calls?

Aaaahhhh - too much going round in my head about this (probably because I don't know enough about the mobile phone side of it and that is probably the easiest thing to buy out here!!!???).

If anybody can help out with my questions, I would be extremely grateful!

Cheers
