Brunei convicts Thai women for prostitution

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Labour today warned Thai women not to damage the nation's reputation, following the conviction of two Thai women for prostitution in Brunei.

The two women, aged 25 and 17, were sentenced along with a 33 year-old Thai man after being arrested in a hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei's capital city.

The women face sentences of six and four months respectively, while the man will be behind bars for 18 months and receive three lashes for pimping.

Sheesh.... the height of hypocrisy. The Thai prostitutes damage Brunei's reputation, but not the Brunei customers?.... or we all the "John's" from Thailand as well???

The Brunei royals also boast a bit of notoriety for a spot of horizontal refreshment, and a glass or two of strong drink.

I think they are talking about damaging Thailand's reputation here, not Brunei's, SJ? :o

But still I agree there is hypocrisy involved.

Hmmm... in re-reading it, I guess you're right; but not sure how damaging it is to Thailand's rep....

Dolt#1: "Did you hear? Thailand has prostitutes?"

Dolt#2: "Really?... I never knew that."

My parents lived and worked in Brunei for 11 years. as mch as we have a saying here - This is Thailand, we could create a motto for Brunei. The hush hush atmosphere is far more extreme there.

It's just a bloody show to satisfy hyprocrisy :D

If they really cared about morals that much people would have rather faced reality than to have pretended forever that they have really tried to prevent it.

Anyway, who cares about the powerless?

I imagine Brunei would be similar to Malaysia in this respect. Malaysia muslims are not supposed to use prostitutes, so all the brothels are located in 'discreet' places like behind hotels or on a dedicated level of a hotel.......and they will be masked as 'Health centres'.......and you should see the steady traffic of locals going in and out (sorry about that).......all night !!

There are more hyprocrites than human in this world!

Well, I think that humans might win that competition. :o
