'Don't get too engrossed' works pretty well here. มัวแต่ implies spending all your time, effort and attention on doing one thing. It's only used in a negative (perjorative) sense.

A couple of scenarios illustration with and without อย่า, along with idiomatic (non-literal) translations:

มาช่วยทำความสะอาดบ้างสิ อย่ามัวแต่ดูทีวี "come help me clean! don't just sit there and watch TV all day!"

ทำไมไม่ช่วยทำความสะอาดบ้างเลย มัวแต่ดูทีวี "why didn't (you) help me clean? (you) just sat there watching TV the whole time!"

Engrossed is the right word, but often it wouldn't be translated directly as such in English. It's usually used in an accusatory/complaining way, as aanon mentioned.

Here is another example from a May, 2008, article in Matichon

เสียงคนไทยที่ตักเตือนให้คนไทยหันหน้าเข้าหากัน อย่ามัวแต่ทะเลาะ ตบตีกันเอง นักการเมืองก็หยุดโกงกินแล้วตั้งหน้าตั้งตาทำงานด้วยความซื่อสัตย์สุจริต ใช้ความรู้ความสามารถในการพัฒนาประเทศอย่างเต็มที่

I think your examples still mostly show that we use the word when we're implying that it would be better if the subject did not spend their whole time/attention doing the particular thing.

[implication: because I just stood there stunned, I missed my chance]

[implication: because I was daydreaming, I missed what you said]

[the negative implication is less clear here -- perhaps because the speaker is being playful/sarcastic]

If you replace อย่ามัวแต่ by ไม่ต้อง, the sense of this sentence would be changed from 'warning and suggestion' to 'warning and command'. So, it can't be used interchangeable.
