Hi All,

Anyone can help how to retrieve my bike from port.

I made mistake in sending bike from UK in 3 boxes and tried to import into Thailand!!!!

After one year my motorbike still in port after trying legally to import. I paid one company 28.000 Baht to pay taxes etc, at the end of the day took my money and told me can not bring bike into Thailand, so basically took money and did nothing.

Anyone can assist I would be grateful. :o

Well it's gonna take much more than a year and 28k to get it out if even possible at all. To save on costs you are better leaving it there and purchasing new one locally. I'm not saying it's not possible to get it out but what many here in the forum that has some personal experiences can tell you it's not worth the hassle and money.

What were you thinking in the first place, just shipping it in without checking how it should be done ?

Lot of information on this forum, use the search function and take a look.

Bikerman i am guessing that you owned it in the UK and have the uk registration doc etc if so redirect it to malaysia then get it built up complete with the original number plate etc. then ride it in as a tempory import. what is it by the way. is it worth all the hassle. Livinlos has some details of this method as he has friends that have done it. Did the 3 boxes come in the same container or seperate containers. if seperate then you are importing spares if the same then you are importing a complete bike and without a permit obtained before hand almost impossible.

Hope this helps. Allan

Suggest you use an internationally reputable frieght forwarder/customs clearance company (Integrated logistics).

It will cost but they will know how to clear the bike for you and then ship it via inland frieght to your address.

Some company names that come to mind are;

Schenker; http://www.schenker.co.th/contact/index.html

F.H Bertling; http://www.bertlinglogistics.co.za/locatio...s=t&menu=50

DHL Logistics; http://www.dhl.co.th/publish/th/en/web/contact.high.html

Exel; http://www.importgenius.com/shipments/exel-thailand.html

There will be local Thai companies who are equally as good, but.. as you've been burnt before....

Well I have doubts that they are smart, but they might be able to recommend someone.

We had once a problem and they recommended us a guy.

Strange ugly person, he fixed the problem with money under the table.

No I don't have his phone number anymore....

Before you do anymore running around are you sure the three boxes still contain the origional contents, after one year maybe the've gone walkies and what about storage charges on top of the 28,000B already shelled out?

Not so far out of Bangkok I saw a group of Indians chasing a group of cowboys, or was it the way around.... Anyway, first most of you will think this is a really of topic post... But be real, send a motorcycle to Thailand without checking regulations, second motorcycle in 3 boxes, still it is a motorcycle, it would not be the first who imports a motorcycle with front and rear wheel packed in a separate box. It is not smart, but it makes it not impossible. (Engine detached from the frame can make more problems, and would steer most customs officers into import of parts, but this is easily diverted by European registration papers (which show all the numbers), of course this registration papers need to be in the name of the importer.

Okay why do I think about Indians and Cowboys, when I read this story??? It is similar to what BIGBIKEBKK is asking, if I not clear a motorcycle within the set time I get really spicy storage charges, normally to avoid really high charges you need to release the goods to a transporter with a bonded-warehouse, but still ONE year not claim the goods. That probably will make about the same price as the bike is actual worth....

The 28,000 Baht I can completely not place... Was it a really old motorcycle and you get 10 percent import duty ... But if that the motorcycle would already be in the system and therefore now your property ....

Therefore this is just an Indian and Cowboy story which is nice to talk about at the next camp fire meeting...
