I'd be sticking around just to watch all the scores that get settled. It would be a very, very interesting time, I think.

i've got VIP seats to see Newin wrap his lips around it

the main thing for me is not who gets in power, but that the Thai people are able to choose for themselves who they want to run the country. if the elites are not happy with the outcome, they should invest in raising the political conciousness of the nation, not by manipulating and bulldozing for their outcome. IMHO.

You mean like the reds are doing now?

We are guests here so it doesnt bother me one way or the other if Thaksin leads the country again. What does bother me is that until creeps like him are out of politics then corruption will continue to flourish in this greedy country.

Murderers and lowlifes run this country and the thais seem to accept it,but maybe they are starting to see the light now,but it will take many years and many deaths to change the unacceptable behaviour of the minority elitists.

What are you doing here ? There are a number of other countries in the area, same climate, same food, same everything, what are you still doing here ?

Please don't do that Pierrot, everything he said is correct, the fact that it bothers us is because we CARE about Thailand and want to see it make some positive progress, pointing out the countries problems is not bashing. Unless the problem is you didn't notice these problems?

"Murderers and lowlifes run this country" It's a very harsh statement. I may not like the current government but if one day I really think that the people who run this country are "Murderers and lowlifes", i would pack immediately. But it's just me ...

you can blame the yellows for setting the precedent and for causing the reds rally.

now they are simply protesting. not quite the same as taking over the airport.

Even if the reds did take over the airport, i bet you wouldn't be against it. You'd just say, "well the yellows did it, why shouldn't we?"

Why shouldn't you? Well it's about having a belief and sticking by it - not changing it to suit your circumstances.

Throughout the yellow protest, you argued at length at how wrong it was for a small minority to be trying to get their way - yet now that's exactly what the reds are doing and you whole-heartedly support it??? Where's the consistency?

I argued for the right of the yellows to protest and felt that they had good cause too. The reds have in my opinion no good cause to protest, but i'd still argue for their right to do so.

But it does show the mindset of the Thaksinista's. Free speech is fine, as long as it supports Thaksin. Anything else will not be tolerated.

Hey, that sounds like a lefty free-speech movement! :o

I wonder how 'broke' he is. We hear about sequestered assets. Did anyone else notice during the weeks following the coup (like by reading the Bangkok Post or Nation) that his wife did a bit of coming and going from the country? I figured these were 'bread runs.'

inspector: please open your suitcase

Mrs T: that's not a suitcase, that's my wallet

inspector: alright then, off you go

Where is Taksin at the minute? My wife tells me that there is a lot of fuss and bother right now as he is making broadcast saying all manner of things that should not be said about those that should not be talked about. He seems to be pushing the very fragile envelope of Thai taboos. Apparently 'they' are desperately trying to find him. Do what, I don't know. Ask him kindly to stop it I guess :o . Is this right?

For the farangs who actually pick a side and even manage to get excited, I can easily see that you have not watched the government antics over the years. It makes no difference what party or politicians get elected. An honest politician who doesn't belong to the good old boy's network will NEVER get elected. Corruption is a way of life and it is not likely to change anytime soon if ever. :o

not by manipulating and bulldozing for their outcome.

You mean like the reds are doing now? Do you really think the reds have the support of most Thai people? The answer is no, certainly amongst all that i come in contact with. Even those that did previously support Thaksin, think the country should move on. The only thing that stops that from happening is one man and a tiny group of people, some of whom are only there for the money.

Rixalex don't you think it strange that this government is incapable of moving on when its just one man and a few others, sorry your words.

But in reality will life really change for the better or worse for the ex-pats here whoever gets in , and I know that someone here will say, yes but what about the poor thais, what about the poor thais, at the end of the day its still the person with the overall majority that will run the country so its upto them I'm afraid, sad but true.

Having said that if the politicians didn't keep jumping ship to other parties and stuck to the manifestos that got them elected in the first place and no interference from the military in persuading same M.P.s then things could perhaps move on, but I'm not too sure of rural people actually understanding or even caring what goes on, they are too busy trying to scratch a living.

Farm people know the system. They know that the rich and elite control things. They are quite happy if someone throws a few crumbs their way. The elite want to keep the farming backbone of the country ignorant and poor. The poor know that during the Thaksin era, things were better for them and they don't care if he was a thief as long as they got something too. The current crop of thieves should give the poor a few crumbs and the poor would soon forget Thaksin. Greed controls all.

Very true Gary....

If Thaksin did return to Power and his government allowed Farangs to own land and get permanent residency quite easily, there would also be many Farangs thinking Thaksin was the best thing ever to happen to Thailand. Basically they don't give a toss about any political situation in Thailand, only about the possibility of gaining or losing something personally, human nature I guess.

I never knew one Farang that ever left Thailand because Thaksin was in power, 99.9% left because they were broke, nothing to do with the political situation in a country where they have no say in anything anyway.

If Thaksin did return to power I doubt very much we will see a group of Farangs protesting outside government house, or wearing protest signs at the airport as they leave Thailand in disgust.

Reading many of the posts on this forum about how terrible everything is in Thailand, and about how all the Thais are out to get us, I doubt very much Thaksins return would register as many here will be barricaded in their concrete bunkers to protect themselves from the rest of the population of the country they choose to live in. :o

All True ........

I also pasted your earlier post Gary about no difference in parties.....as it was so funny how well you also described the USA with that statement :D

Maigo6, i'm forever hearing you say that deep down we are all greedy individuals who would sell our principles and beliefs - perhaps even kill our own grandmothers - just for a bit of material gain - or words to those effects! I know you believe this to be true and my telling you that i do place some things in front of personal gain will only be scoffed at, but might i just ask that in future you stick to speaking for yourself, rather than tarnishing us all with your shitty brush.

I agree Rixalex that not everyone is out for everything they can get but heh were not all the same, me, I have to be able to look in the mirror of a morning.
