One Fourth Motorists Used To Be Demanded To Pay Bribe To Traffic Police: Survey

Featured Replies

I am a regular driver between Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, and as a result, a regular financial contributor to the (unofficial) isaan tollway.

At the police stop, (whether speeding or not) the police pretend to write a ticket and I pretend that I will pay it at the next province.

The nice policeman then tells me that i can reduce the 400 baht speeding fine by 50% if I pay now.

Does anyone else keep 200 baht folded up in their wallet for just such an occurence?

Yup, I keep 300 baht folded in a little pocket in the dashboard, with my license on top ;-) Weird though, at my last stop near Udon, there were about 8 BIB there, with some sort of official. I pulled over and waited for 5 minutes while the official saw me shut off the cd player, kill the engine, get my wallet and money, and kept my hands on the wheel. One of the BIB came over, said nothing, just waved me on. Still trying to figure that one out.
