So my husband and I will be moving to Canada in September. I will go first for a job in the US from June until Sept and I hope to get the prv process finished by Sept.

As I have said on another post, my mother is willing to sponsor him and has a good job, house etc. But I will be working in the US have no proof of a job in Canada nor a home.

I have googled and been on govt website but I still dont know where to start. From his tourist visa experience I know that much more was needed past what they said on the govt websites.

I have a couple of questions:

should I hire a lawyer to do this? If so how much is it about?

Do I basically need the same documents that he needed for a TRV plus medical certificate and police record?

Does anyone know of someone who has been rejected a PRV? On what grounds?

He only has his grade 12 and cannot read or write English very well but is a fluent speaker, will any of this matter?

I couldnt understand the break down of the fees. Is it 475+75Cdn?

There will be no issue proving the relationship.

We have been to Canada 3x on Trv.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. It was the help I got on here that made us prepared for his TRVs. If we had just followed the Cdn govt website we would never had got it, so hoping for some extra tips on here for the PRV as well.

Might help people if you state what nationality you and your husband are.

I am Canadian and he is Thai

Hi Meme

You start with this: Go to Canada, be a sponsor of your husband as a spouse and send the PRV application to CIC Missisauga office. This is the first step, the missisauga office checks that you meet all the requirements to be a sponsor and vaify all the required documents that you attach. Once they are satisfied, they will forward the case to Embassy abroad and you will be notified with a case number(for Thai nationals, the PRV application post is Canadian Embassy in Singapore)...so the first step is done!

2nd step: When the Embassy is ready to process your case they will contact you and advice if further docs are necessary. Once the documents are comlete, they will give your husband an interview date and if they are satisfied with the genuinity of your relation, his passport will be stamped with the visa. Once he lands in canada with PRV, he becomes a permanent residence of Canada immidiately.

So you start with the first step and then it will automatiacally progress prcesswise and you can always check the status online with the case number.

Your mom cannot sponsor your husband for PRV, it must be you as a spouse. His English language/ lack of education will not be a problem as long as you can satisfy them why you married a person lacking these qualities and your relation is authentic.

Hope it helps.

Meme has already stated she has a job in the US and english language/lack of education is not necessarily why he would or would not be allowed into the country. The main concern is normally their relationship and whether or not they can satisfy the concerns that it is a valid relationship and she has the means to take care of him.

Sorry, I can't help you with Canada, but when my husband and I applied for his green card to the US I had neither home nor job in the US and he was, in fact, sponsored by my parents.
