April 7, 200917 yr Hello all -- Anyone know of a reliable source to buy a brass wok from in Bangkok? Emporium was suggested but maybe someone knows of a good place / collection of shops where they (brass woks) are definitely available? Cooking utensils (mortar/pestle, etc) I am guessing one of the markets (Khlong Toey?) would be a good bet.. (?) Many thanks

Many thanks Not sure why you would want brass - but anyways, go to JJ Market, excellent SS chinese woks for sale and all the other things you mention - take your time and walk behind the shops out front of the cooking / dishes section.

April 9, 200917 yr Thais use brass woks to make some kinds of desserts. They prefer the brass wok because it holds a lot of heat. I have purchased this kind of wok at a shop along Chinatown (Yaowaraj). This shop is located near the bridge before reaching Wangburapa intersection (western end of Yaowaraj). Heading towards Wangburapa, the shop should be on the righthand side. Plenty of shops there selling food processing equipment.
