Spouse Visa

Featured Replies

Dear Members,

I have been working "Legally" in Thailand since Nov2008 and now my Thai wife is returning to workforce with a Good Job after Songkran.

I wish to stop working and change my Non-Immigrant "B" 1 year visa to Spouse Visa.

Can someone tell me the legal requirements to do this ?

My Wife's Salary will be over between 50k -75k per month if that is a helpful information.

Thankyou Everyone :o

Below are the requirements for an extension of stay based on marriage. You can apply at immigration the next time your current extension is due for renewal.

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)

(2) Proof of family relationship

(3) In the case of a spouse, the marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto;

(4) In the case of a child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse, the said person must not be married, must be living with the family, and must be less than 20 years of age; or

(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.

In other necessary circumstances, The Immigration Commissioner or Deputy of Immigration Commissioner may approve on case to case basis.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 month for expenses within a year.

Thankyou,Thou my question basicly is What Do I need to do if My wife is Supporting me and I as the non-working Spouse ?

Is there provision for this situation?

Unless you have an independent income or cash in a Thai bank that meet the requirements, there is no provision for a stay at home spouse. You would have to rely on a multiple-entry visa and 90 day border runs.

Note: The first (1) and (2) of the quoted post is a computer error, don't know where they came from.

It is too radical in Thailand. It has to be YOUR money or income.

For income outside Thailand you need a letter from your Embassy.

Inside Thailand you need records of Tax payments and a work permit.

For money in a Thai bank you need a letter from the bank verifying the balance. It has to be there for at least 2 months before you apply, although some Immigration offices are insisting on 3 months.

Thanks Lite Beer, does the Cash in a bank have to be in Thai Baht?

Plus the Bank that I have USD "Well over the B400k & deposited over 3months ago " is actually a Taiwanese owned bank ICBC "Bangkok Branch",thou it is fully in accordance with Thai Bank trading for many years etc.

Plus I guess as long as its Balance is over 400k every month thats ok ?

Sorry if all this is so bloody complicated.

but I am really looking for answers that I know the great members here are willing to help :o
