Hi. I recently obtained a multiple Imm 'O' visa (based on marriage), and was wondering how difficult, or possible, it is to apply for a work permit whilst on this visa. I have a job lined up, and they are willing to help out on the red tape side, but is it possible ? Or do i have to revert back to a 'B' and then get it all changed back over to an 'O' later on? I would like to apply for a one year marriage visa but without proof of employment i.e a work permit this won't be possible, and i don't have 400 grand sitting in the bank.

Would they (Labour Dept) require the same paperwork?

The Working of Aliens Act B.E. 2551 says that you can not apply for a work permit with a tourist or transit visa, therefore, a non-immigrant visa, either "B" or "O" is ok.

Yes, the paperwork for a WP is the same. Only at immigration you will need different kind of papers when you go for an extension of stay, as the reason for the extension is different.

Great, so i've got the 'O', I obtain a WP, and then go down immigration with the wife & bairn and all relevent documents/bank statements etc... and get an extension of stay. How long should that take?

If everything is in order, they will first give you a 30 day under consideration stamp. After 30 days you return and they will give you the one year extension (of which you already got 30 days), if they find that you are realy married.
