Apart from the occasional freezing of recordings has anyone else had the very annoying problem of the functions freezing? You press the remote control and nothing happens or it happens 10 seconds or 30 seconds or 1 minute later. Very annoying tried rebooting and replacing batteries in remote makes no difference anyone else having this problem? This used to happen now and again with virgins PVR back in the UK but here it happens daily

Yes the engineering on my PVR that I bought at Emporium is also poor.

It is a Phillips device and I know that to be a very good company.

But it seems to freeze on me if I leave it on a long time.

I believe the reason is that is designed as a computer and

the software seems to "crash" as we say in the business.

I am an electrical engineer.

I usually have to power it down by unplugging the power cord

because the on off switch will not turn it off.

As for freezing during play, that does happen also but not too often.

I think it may be suspeptible to power line transients.

If I had an UPS to put in there I could test this theory but I do not.

For me the problems have been minor and I sympathize with those

for whom the problems are more severe.

There is no going back once you view tv with a pvr though.

Going forward or back in time, slow motion replays and

automatic recordings of favortie shows changes the tv experience

for the better by far.

I have an HUMAX ICORD PVR that I bought over 4 years ago when I was working in Saudi Arabia. You could say that it is the predecessor to the UBC PVR being that both are made by HUMAX. Even though my model uses different firmware and Electronic Program Guide (EPG) than the UBC PVR, I do occasionally experience lockup, but primarily when I attempt to make multiple inputs too quickly. I just turn off the machine with the switch on the back and turn it back on for a reload.

My most recent problem is that for the first time, I have started receiving messages on my PVR from UBC. Every time I receive a message, it causes my PVR to perform a reload. If a recording is taking place at the time of an incoming message, the recording is lost during the reload process. If the PVR is turned off when a message is received, scheduled recording will not take place. I had meant to call UBC to ask if they could stop sending me these messages, which appear on my PVR as spam like characters since my PVR doesn't have the Thai language as an option.

My PVR fom True seems to have the same problems and more:

- Freezing of recordings

- delayed response to remote control commands

and

- switch of channels without any intervention from me. When I push the "recall" button, it switches to the one-before previous channel. So I push the "recall" again and then it switches to the channel I was watching. This suggests that the channel switch is not due to an erratic remote control signal, but done internally. Also, it happens mostly under poor signal conditions (rain or thunderstorm approaching).

Well, I will replace it with a Dreambox 7020 as soon as it arrives here.

(Note to Moderator: This is all totally legal.)

BTW, does someone know how to download the recordings from the PVR to the computer?

UBC will not tell the truth about all the problems that they are having with the HUMAX PVR. I finally talked to a rep there who told me everyone is having FREEZE problems on playback. They keep trying to update the software but are clueless about how to fix it. They are great at sales and terrible once they get your baht.
