Walk into a bank and ask to open a bank account.

You may be lucky first time . You may have to try a few, but you will get one.

Members report more success by trying Kasikorn or SCB.

Many banks will do it. You just have to try different banks and branches.

Since you are wanting to open an account with 400,000 baht I assume its for a marriage extension. If your wife has a bank account you should find it easier at the same bank as her account using her as a reference.

Also a letter/statement from your embassy confirming your address will help. If you can get a certificate of residence from immigration thats even better and free.

This webpage is the best I have found on any bank website that gives info on opening an account.

It tends to be easier in the tourist areas. I got my 1st one in Hua hin then went back to my home town they 1st said no, so i showed them the other banks pass book then it was 'ok no problem'........ go figure.

Well thank you,

How do you say certificate of residence in Thai, please?

This is the form used for applying for a Residence Certificate from Immigration. You really should not need it.
