Relocating To Bkk. What Should I Do With My Stuff In The Us

Recommended Posts

I will be moving to BKK next summer. i have a lot of stuff in the US that i would like to have access to in Thailand. New furniture and lots of electronics and books are the main items. Of course clothes too. What is the best way to get these items to BKK? Would it be cost prohibitive to do this? Buying new stuff in Thailand would set me back a lot, considering what i paid for the things here in the US.

I am not exactly sure what type of job i'll have there. I'm pretty open at this point.

any tips the board has about my upcoming relocation would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

if its not expensive and its sentimental bring it over and you are willing to pay then do so

if its expensive, forget it you will get f*cked by thai customs and have to pay the appropiate tea money, er i mean import tax

I’m in the same situation, but moving there around October......w/ lots of books and furnitures mostly

The cheapest quoted for me is around $6400 (40 ft container) - by Allied - door to door - Seattle to BKK

So still hunting for the cheaper one tho

My mom said to leave all the furnitures behind and get 20 ft container space instead

Hmm...will see.........coz I'm too attached to my furnitures :o

$6000 is a bit more than i was hoping to spend. but since it would cost much more than $6000 to replace my stuff, i might have to bite the bullet on this one. the first replier mentioned getting screwed by import tax. if it's for personal use and not resale, is import tax involved? or is it just money to grease the wheels to get me my stuff. i will be shipping to a Native Thai's house, not some commercial address. will that matter?

thanks for your help(s?) so far.

cheers
