I spent Songkhran in Southern Laos, along the Mekong; awfully hot and humid. No electricity so there wasn't even a fan to cope with the heat.

After that, coming back to Bangkok I feel as fresh as a lettuce even at noon. :o

I poured 5 or 6 bottles of cold water on myself during a sports tournament on sunday... it was death.

Bangkok's hottest day hikes national electricity use

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) reported that the highest national use of electricity in 2009 occurred at 14.30 yesterday (22 April) at 21,815 megawatts due to the extreme heat on Bangkok's hottest day of the year.

This year's electricity usage is lower compared to last year's hottest day of 21 April 2008, when 22,018 megawatts were used. The use of electricity on 21 April this year was at 21,336.8 megawatts which is equivalent to a 6.56 percent reduction.

EGAT said the lower use of electricity was a result of decreasing production in factories and businesses despite the fact that electricity usage was increasing in households and buildings.

The use of electricity in the first quarter this year (January – March 2009) is 33.62112 billion units, which is reduced by 5.48 percent in comparison to the same period last year.

Actually the hottest day of the year in Bangkok was Thursday, April 24th when almost all over Bangkok temperatures reached +39C. Right now temperatures are cooling down due to heavy downpours in many areas of Bangkok, especially during the 26th April the amount of rainfall was significant, 40-60 mm in the center and South Eastern parts of Bangkok.
