I've been using Skype for over a year with my preferences set to allow chat and calls from anyone. Last night, I started receiving a barrage of chat messages advertising web sites, and today I even received a phone call from an unknown caller. I set my Skype preferences to only allow chat messages and calls from people on my contact list for now, and am wondering how much spam other Skype users in Thailand are getting.

Yup, confirmed from Thailand. Had some "conference chat" mostly from Chines companies displayed in my Skype and some other "services" were offered mostly by female Skypers vom Russia...

I reported to Skype and the issue was solved within a day. Actually I block every address I don't know. My settings are as same as yours. I must authorize first.

At work, having Skype installed on any computer that connects to corporate (including home PC) is a sackable offence.

Not because it may cause loss of productivity but because it's impossible to control what comes through it - no virus checker can look into the Skype tunnel and block anything.

I gate maybe one a week from someone, usually some female wanting to be my friend. I have to keep things open to people who are not on my call list because I have my Skype ID on some of my websites. What we really need is some kind of code displayed alongside or as part of the Skype link that would pass contacts originating from a weblink and allow blocking of people who randomly trawl Skype IDs for spamming.

It isn't a big enough problem yet for me to investigate or complain more, but I can see it becoming so soon.
