l have a 1 year visa in my passport expiring 30 Oct '09, l am leaving Thailand to Phom Phen, Cambodia by air on 27 Oct returning 17 Nov. Should l renew my visa before l leave or should l try getting a visa in Cambodia? What type of visa can l get coming back in from Cambodia? How long will last?

With a one year visa you mean you have a 1 year extension of stay from immigration?

If so, the best is to get a new extension of stay before you go. You can aply for a new extension of stay 30 days prior to expiration of your current permission to stay.

so, if l get 30 days when fly back in from Cambo to Bkk, maybe l should renew it when those 30 days expire?????

You have not answered the questions - do you have extension for retirement/wife/work? Will you still be able to meet the conditions to obtain another? If yes you should apply for a new one year extension of stay before you travel and then travel with a re-entry permit. The amount of time before travel will depend on your answer to the reason for extension.

If you leave and return without a visa you would have to do the extension within 9 days to do a change of visa status if you qualified for it.

If you are still working and have a work permit you can another extension of stay at immigration.

You don't have to leave the country and return to gat an extension of stay if that is what you are thinking.

If you cannot get an etension then you should get a tourist visa when you leave the country.
