GeoCities will close later this year.
We have decided to discontinue the process of allowing new customers to sign up for GeoCities accounts as we focus on helping our customers explore and build new relationships online in other ways. We will be closing GeoCities later this year.

Is there any other free web hosting that is comparable to yahoo geocities for small business businesses?

For your consideration. A domain name will cost less than 10$ per year. They might come even free when you sign with a web hosting company.

If you don't need much web space you can get a 50mb package including your domain name for 50$ a year even less.

Why do you need this freaking GeoCities, use uCoz.com . Aren't free unlimited disk space and bandwidth enough for you?

Does anyone know any other reasonably good free web hosting services that aren't going to close down in the near future? I have a small homepage with not too much traffic.

Ucoz, as mentioned above, looked interesting, but seems to have gone downhill as this June 3rd 2009 review indicates:

"this site used to be the best hoster around until the recent upgrades. now they've gone corporate and require you to pay for most of the features. you can't disable the ad bar on logged in users anymore, and to be honest they're now just another crappy corporate web hoster. they went from being the best to being the worst in just under a week, which is saddening :)"

Thanks in advance for any info.

Try using one of the Blog services - blogger or google blogs or whatever. Not a bad option for a small business that doesn't have or can't afford IT support. If you have some basic skills then really, you can get a workable (not great) commercial web host without ads and crap for $1 a month. Just do it.

Thanks guys, will try a few of them out.

Apparently Geocities is closing down on 26/10/09.
