Alimony Payment Law In Thailand?

Featured Replies

I know - in the past this was not an issue in Thailand's law system.

But sometimes things are changing. Does anybody know about the latest legal status of obligation to support his own child (Thai father, Thai mother, Thai child)?

Thanks for constructive feedback.

The law says that parents must provide support in the event of separation (& subsequent divorce) as per the reference below, but my understanding is that there is no admin system/agency in place in Thailand to drive this process.

Presumably this means the supporting spouse's only options are to make do on their own, or to initiate a court case against the bludging ex-partner ... who may be untraceable &/or broke anyway.

I would imagine there would be some earlier discussion threads on this topic - have you done a forum search yet?

Section 1499/1 and Section 1522

Yes, there is an obligation as Chinagmai Bruce pointed out.

It might also be wise to check if the parents were married and if not if the father legitimised the child. Otherwise a paternity suit must be laid to have the court establish that he is the father and therefor should pay child support.
