Koh Samui 3 Days

Recommended Posts

I am going to Samui for a quick break with the BF, who is Thai.

There are probably older posts about the place, but here goes---

We will fly down on May 20th for 3 days. We are not looking for a sex frolic, but we want to be "near" any bars or scene and to meet new friends. We don't want to be in the middle of the hetero barfly scene (which I hear is full-on) in the main resort. Any suggestions? A quieter beach? On Samet we like Tub Tim, which is quieter and gayer than most parts.

I know that Samui doesnt have a huge gay scene.

Any ideas for a "quiet" time but without staying in a distant jungle? Any Samui buffs are welcome to comment. I have never been there.

(budget is OK to good, but not Hilton level)

Thanks

P

The Honey bar in Chawang is very gay / transgender friendly. Run by the same guy who runs the samui pirates. Nice guy and had many a good night in there after a ride round the island. Im sure they can point you in the direction of more bars the same. Enjoy :)

There's BoyZone across street from Centara in Chaweng.

There's also a gay massage called Emerald green near Nora resort, Chaweng.

I'd recommend Whispering Palms Condominium which is 10 minutes' drive from Chaweng Beach (it's behind Tesco Lotus, but away from the main road and the noise), you can book it at www.samui-condo.com . I stayed there with my BF last month - it's a brand new resort with large suites for 1300-1500 Baht a night - includes a big living room, kitchen and balcony, free wifi, nice big swimming pool, sauna, steam room and fitness room.

We had the resort more-or-less to ourselves as most condos are for sale, not for holiday rentals. You would probably want to rent a bike or a car, though I guess you could walk 10 minutes to the main road where there are songtaew buses.

We've also stayed in Mayaburi Resort - a bungalow-style place which is near the airport. Nice pool and rooms (huge bathrooms for some reason) , nice vibe with the other guests, cheap at 800 Baht including breakfast and wifi. You definitely need your own wheels though it's not far from Chaweng Beach (and beautiful Bang Rak beach).

If you like to stay on the beach, Chaweng Noi Beach is pleasant and you'll meet quite a few local gay guys there. The main resort there is the Impiana Resort which is 1800+ Baht a night. There are some nice, cheaper bungalows next to the Impiana Resort - the Beach Love bar has some excellent seaview bungalows, about 1200 Baht a night.

We go to Chaweng to hang out in the evening. Like the other poster said, there's a couple of gay bars opposite Centara. There are some ladyboy cabaret shows in some of the Chaweng bars too. The other big tourist area is Lamai beach, it's mostly girly bars in the centre but I like the beach and alot of good Thai and seafood restaurants there too.

Enjoy your stay in Samui :-)

I have heard the same thing mate, from lots of other sites as well, but as the next message after yours says, its no worse than elswhere in beach locations in Thailand.

I got a full month to fill in from July to Aug, flying in to Penang, so want something in the area, and just want a nice quiet beach, white sand, a basic beach hut, and no package tourists, although a few travellers to chill with at night is cool. Access to liquor supplies and a few food places is critical of course.

Been to Perhentians ,but its getting boring it being of the islamic persuasian. Lankawi I was not impressed with, Koh Chang too commercial, Penang ,well its been polluted since I went there first back in the 60.s

Any advice on a secret destination ???

Actually Samui has everything for everyone. You could still find a nice quiet beach with a 500 THB per night basic seaview hut here. I can recommend few places. But one cannot expect that in the middle of Chaweng beach where prices at resorts are around 3,000 THB per night. However one can still find an 800 THB per night basic room even in Chaweng. Is that a rip-off and expensive?

As to the secret destination fitting the bill .. hmm .. I would say Koh Chang or around but it that's too commercial everywhere else is so as well. Koh Lanta is quiet but it's a muslim place and so is Koh Yao. Maybe try Koh Phangan or even better Koh Tao. Although that last one is busy with divers the waters are sparkling clear and you can be in a real paradise on some more remote beaches. Not sure about the liquor stores at remote places though.

Khanom on Surat Thanis mainland is beautiful, very quite, superb beaches. There are nice places along Chumpons coastline as well. Best place usually also considering the regional monsoon periods.

On the other side the Koh Chang archipelago has diverse islands with a real laid back atmosphere, Koh Khuut, Koh Maak...
