I went to bkk last year in october for about $1250 CAD return ( saskatoon to bkk)...and this year the cheapest I have seen from air canada is around the 1700 ballpark. Anyone have some insights into some cheaper flights?

Also, I want to stay for a really long time, I know the most a tourist visa is good for is 30 days, and you can extend it...but how many times can you extend it? is it possible to get 90 - 180 days or more out of a tourist visa?

On the visa isue, you could apply for a double entry tourist visa form an embassy or consulate. A tourist visa is good for 60 days and can be extended by another 30 day in Thailand itself for 1,900 baht. After that you have to leave the country. With a double entry you can then come right back in and the same story again.

so double entry could equal a possible 60 + 30 then 60 + 30 =180 days?

Look up China airlines as they seem to have the best ongoing fares to BKK....but that is from YVR.

Last time I was at the Royal Thai Consulate in Vancouver I picked up a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa valid for 3 seperate entrances. That could in effect give you 9 months stay. The closest Thai Consulate to you would be the Edmonton office. Do a google search and you will find it. You can courier them your passport with the fee's includedand they will ship it back expresspost.

I would try to contact a travel agency (consolidator) in Vancouver for YVR -BKK portion for best fares.

Correct. If you leave and re-enter Thailand the same day you would of course lose a day, as day 90 of your first entry and day 1 of you second entry would be the same day.
