Did The Internet Just Die For 1/2 An Hour?

Featured Replies

Maxnet 23:00 - 23:35 - no Google Earth, no Hotmail, no Gmail, no Internet Explorer, no Firefox.

Only P2P (Azureus) working normally (except non-running torrents show 'scrape error').

Tried both OpenDNS and Maxnet's own - no change.

Tried restarting PC - no change.

Now suddenly all working again. :)

Yesterday I had some 10 - 20 min maxnet issues.. Modem connected but not pinging OpenDNS etc, but was pinging my gateway.. Apps that used IP comms seemed to work, and I had a weird scene where MSN was logging in but messages bouncing..

Couple modem reboots no joy then back again.. First noticeable outage in months.

:D:D:D I miss it must have been napping at the keyboard AGAIN :)

I have had the same. Maxnet Down usualy around 5 pm for approx 1 Hr

This has been going on for the last 4 or 5 days

So did I, for almost one week now.

Then, I just go out for a couple of beers around sunset and when back home everything is fine. :)

And I thought my PC had picked up a virus that blocked access to the net! had same problems as above!!

guess i should have looked for this before posting. same stuff with my maxinet. working fast and then just gone for different lengths of time. usually ok at night but daytimes are very erratic

It was the little monkey running packets in and out of Thailand that needed a small break.

I'm now thinking it was the weather :) . About 5 minutes after I'd posted about the problem, there were a few electricity brown-outs, the UPS's clicked a few times, the curtains started banging against the bug screens and then the rain came!

So I think this time a storm may have knocked out something.

I thought it was the DNS server as my P2P client was happily talking to IPs that it already knew about, but had problems talking to trackers. I forgot to try 'pings'.

That reminds me - must change back to OpenDNS. :D

I'm usually out then. Got to get some fresh air some time!

Yes - that is always the worry! :)

Internet bad again for the last hour or so. Only just came back. Don't think it was DNS problem - just v. v. slow to connect and then times out.

Strange thing is, my Vuze was downloading at over 400kB/s - that's "kbytes/sec" - during this time.
