kennkate
Try A Round mop if you can get it down. Works well in the blocked toilet situation. Use it as you would a plunger

fiddlehead
I say no to the chemicals. Rarely works and is a harm to the environment. 2 of my brothers are plumbers and have taught me a few tricks on opening drains. First step is always a plunger. Do it rapidly, over and over for at least a minute or two. (Make sure it is sealing and creating the popping noise) If that doesn't work: Take a garden hose with (hopefully) lots of pressure. Put it into the drain and try to surround it (tightly) with a towel or rags. Turn on the water. The pressure opens up clogged drains 60-80% of the time. If that doesn't work, get the snake. I have one (back home) that is designed for fishing electric lines that i have sometimes used although the professional one my brother's company owns is much bigger and has an electric motor to make it turn. Keep turning it, both ways while you are feeding it and if that doesn't work, try using the snake WITH the pressured' hose at the same time. Good luck.
