Mun River Development In Ubon

I just came back from visiting Ubon and from what I understood the whole Mun riverfront in downtown Ubon was paved to make way for some sort of port... but she couldn't explain it that well to me- anybody know the specifics? We're building a new house just 5 minutes up from the riverbank there and I was hoping something substantial was being consturcted so as to increase land values in the area... but I have my doubts: I've been to Ubon several times but this time something was different. Maybe I was just jetlagged or something but I found the whole town very depressing... nearly every storefront appeared to be derelict and barely operating ...is there any hope for economic development in that city?

Lots of development in and around Ubon, and the city/Province is moving fast forward!

However - the construction of the new market near the river seems to have paused.

Ask in one of the banks nearby or the Wat "next door" and you might be updated? :D

Btw! I never find Ubon depressing :D:D - must have been something in your drink - or maybe lack of? :):D

I agree Bergen, this town visually seems not to be suffering from the recession. I have just opened up a business here a few weeks ago. So far so good :)

Yes maybe it's just depressing looking on the surface considering the tropical molds.. but perhaps the businesses are doing fine. What kind of business did you start MeMock?

Svenn,

As Bergen mentioned the riverfront project is for Market Yai to move to upon completion. Market Yai sits behind the construction by Sri Isaan Hotel. The project was stopped because the term of a lady in local government who spearheaded the project was at the end of her term and other groups didn't want to continue it. She was re-elected so the construction should continue. Plus I see plans for more cement projects on billboards.

The other construction is just for an area for people to exercise, relax or have a picnic or something. I have my doubts if this will have any affect on property values. There is also a low-cost government housing project to the left of the market if facing the river. It would offset any rise in property values due to the market. I have no idea how a busy farmer's market has anything to do with property values.

The cement bleachers on the river replaced some old ones. Not really a port. There are some boat races held there occassionally.
