monkeyofdoom
I'm wondering what I should be doing to my Ninja 250R's chain... How often do I need to lubricate it? Is there any special procedure that should be followed for lubricating it, apart from just putting the lube on there? Is there an easy way to do it? Which lubricants (type or brand) are good to use and available in Thailand, preferably in Chiang Mai? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks! BigBikeBKK
Thailand can be tough on chains- above average dust dirt and grime can take their toll and during the rainy season it can be a challenge to keep your chain properly lubricated. There are a ton of good articles out there on chain maintenance and chain lubes- here are a few I think you might find useful. The first one is my favorite: http://www.canyonchasers.net/shop/generic/chain.php http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/12...lube/index.html http://motorcycles.about.com/od/motorcycle...Chain_Maint.htm Easiest and cheapest way to clean a chain is with a kerosene soaked rag. Kerosene is called "naman gaat" in Thai. As for chain lubes in Thailand, Putolene is easy to find in Bangkok and I know I've seen Putolene at a few shops up in Chiang Mai- It's a bit pricey but as it's a ceramic wax I find it's more water resistant than typical petroleum chain lubes which is quite handy during the rainy season. Also, once it dries it does not fling like many other chain lubes and it's not sticky so it doesn't attract dirt and grime. The Kawasaki service shop in Bangkok uses white lithium grease, but personally I find it does not last long at all. Happy Trails! Tony
monkeyofdoom
Thanks Tony, that's much appreciated How many km do you personally go between chain lubes? Or do you just eyeball it?

Check the manual some recommend simple 90 gear oil, the chain will prob. have internal lube with 0 ring seals all you need is some form of external lube that does not degrade the 0 rings
sinewave
i like the veloil chainlube in the black can, when you spray it, it fizzles and works its way between the links.
Zzinged
I use Motul Chain Lube Factory Line. I clean and lube my chain after every wash usually. http://www.motul.co.jp/eg/product_line_up/...s/others08.html
