mickmac
I think that the OP's complaint may be related to the assistant, who he feels may have lied about the product, that there were 3 different types.
Dr. Burrito
If you want to compare Duty Free shops, check out those at the Dubai Airport if you're going through there. They have some excellent deals on cigars, wine, liquor and automobiles. : D
angmo
Guys. There is a very simple explanation - and this applies to all duty free shops worldwide. DUTY FREE - means no duty! But it certainly does not mean PROFIT FREE!
Axel
The duty free shops adjust their prices to the clients. In Hong Kong they sell really expensive, but much cheaper than in Japan. And into Japan you may carry 3 liter of spirits. In LHR and FRA duty free might be half the price of domestic but double that f Asian DF-shops. In Bangkok I only buy whisky and cigarettes. Chocolate is cheaper downtown. Upon return, after immigration 1 more bottle whisky and cigarettes, which are unavailable for me in downtown BKK. Both items I use as well to compare the price. J.W. Black Label 1 l. BKK below Baht 1000, SGN US$ 19, DXB US$ 20-21, Inflight LH Euro 21 for 0.7 liters. CX US$ 26 per liter. Once bought a watch in BKK DF, 40 % cheaper than SK-inflight shop or direct from mail order in the US. Only chance, compare the prices, if you can. p_brownstone
The running of the Duty Free concession at the Don Muang Airport – and other International Airports in Thailand – is another sadly typical example of corrupt practice in Thailand. Several years ago Kingpower lost the concession to an Irish Company (forget the name just now) who are specialists in the field and run Duty Free operations in many Countries around the world. After a few years the political “climate” changed and they were kicked out on very suspect grounds and Kingpower re-instated. It’s a money making operation because most casual travellers – i.e. people on their annual holidays – simply assume that anything in the “Duty Free” shops anywhere must, by definition, be cheaper than the equivalent Product if bought at the local Dixons or whatever; and they have no opportunity to compare the pricing until it’s too late. Jockstar
Just one thing i noticed. Sangsom 240 baht a bottle at DF. But 138 baht at Carrefour/Tesco or near enough this price at 7-11. Go figure!
MikeRay
But King Power is the only place that sells "Lucky Strike" Cigarettes, am I right? That´s for what we use it by arrival

bkk_mike
Tax Refund is for TouristsYou cannot claim it if you are on Non Immigrant Visa <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm on a non-immigrant visa, and got a refund the one time I've tried it (so long as I take the goods out of the country with me on my latest flight.) Maybe it's because I'm always on my permit to enter, and never get an extension of stay because I have to go to the office in the UK every few months... astral
Booze and cigarettes are cheaper. Forget electronics. Bought a Sony camera at the Sony shop in town, 11,900 baht at the airport it was 13,000 baht. If you want locally produced items look for an OTOP shop like LookDod in Pattaya. What do you mean "Permit to Enter" If you really are on Non Immigrant Visa maybe you mean "Re-Entry Permit" In which case I would suggest a mistake was made in allowing you a Refund. But as you say you never get an Extension and leave every few months Maybe your "Permit to Enter" is a "Visa on Arrival" ? In which case you will be classified as a Tourist. Maybe a Bit off Topic - But as I started the Topic - Mai Pen Rai ! Bill
