tuky
My better half has an ear cleaning problem, she says they are always itchy (I am talking inside the canal) so she cleans with cotton tips up to 5 times each day, on many occassions she has woken up in the morning to an ear full of fluids due to I believe her exessive irritations with the cotton tip. Other than the obvious slip and perforated ear drum, can this habit of hers be a serious problem? if so what could happen to her? I have tried many many times to get her to go to the doctor but she says it is ok. I am worried that she will end up with either so much scar tissue in there she will lose some hearing or an infection that will cause more serious problems. any thoughts from the medically minded? chuchok
Your are exactly correct tukyleith. The ONLY thing that you should put in your ears is your elbow. Your ears produce wax for a reason. One of these is to keep crap out. The wife used to do the same thing all the time.I warned her and warned her.Guess what happened, yep..she got a mother of an ear infection and had to see a specialist. The specialist told her the same thing. I, of course, did not rub it in with child like humour along the lines of "Told u so..told u so......." Edited February 8, 2005 by chuchok
taxexile
Your ears produce wax for a reason. One of these is to keep crap out. correct ! take her to an ear clinic and let them have a look and maybe syringe them with whatever liquid they use for that and then hide the q-tips and let the natural wax build up again. But at least she uses cotton tips unlike many Thais, my hubby included, who use specially shaped metal picker spoons to dig in thier ears I'm always telling him he's gonna get an infection from it one day! Jai Dee
My better half has an ear cleaning problem, she says they are always itchy (I am talking inside the canal) so she cleans with cotton tips up to 5 times each day, on many occassions she has woken up in the morning to an ear full of fluids due to I believe her exessive irritations with the cotton tip. Quite a few years ago I used to do exactly that... and an ear infection was the result. The reason why the ear canal is itchy is because of the continuous irritation caused by excess rubbing with the cotton tips. For me, (and I suspect your wife too) it was a case of love/hate of the sensations produced by rubbing... hated the itchiness, but loved to scratch it. An infection is inevitable as the ear's natural protective wax is removed. The doctor I went to prescribed an antibiotic to eliminate the infection, and also suggested that if I did feel the need to clean my ears (they are self-cleaning), use a paper clip... rounded with no sharp edges and able to remove solid wax. He also warned that you should only do it say once a month. I've never had an infection (nor dirty ears) since!!!
MistaDorn
her problem is same as mine. I always have liquid in my right ear. I cannot hear it very well for this right ear. I used to do like her everyday. But, I also said to my mom that it is ok. one days i've got hurt. So I decided to go to see ear doctor at Phayathai Hospital in Ayuthaya Road. Doctor checked my ears. left side is ok. but right side is lot of water. he said that my ear hole is very deep. and the ear glass is almost crash. So he put ... in my ear and suck them all out and bleeding. It's a bit pain. but I hear very well on that time. Doctor said do not swim for 2-3 weeks. and he gave me ear drops. Whoa and I love him. this problem on my ear is solved. I hear very well now. after he suck all liquid in my ear he said if you do not treat it, later, you'll get ear cancer. well. this will takes several weeks to heal her ear. bring her to doctor, believe me. I have earing problem since i'm 9 years old. but it solved out last year 2004. Edited February 9, 2005 by MistaDorn
haha
check out www.curezone.com http://www.health-truth.com/articles/parasites01.asp ...according to the above websites, itchy ears is one of the symptoms of having parasites in your body. there are many reasons for itchy ears. besides the possibility of having worms in your body, you may just have an allergy to something. doesn't hurt to make sure though. ..the other day, I bought some cauliflower at foodland. after cleaning it, and slicing it up, I popped it into the microwave for 5 minutes. when it was cooked, I took it out, and was getting ready to eat it. ..as I was about to ravish it, I noticed these small white things in the pot next to the cauliflower. ..guess what they were? small thin worms cooked by my microwave. evidently, they emerged from the cauliflower when I was nuking it - trying to escape the radiation. .. scary, to say the least. ugh!!!! ..hope you are not reading this while eating dinner. tuky
Thanks for that fellas. I have looked inside her ear and the skin is white like a constant scab/dead tissue and occasionally she leaves a pusey green fluid on the pillow case in the morning. I worry for her so much, but she just says "no pomprem mai bpen rai everysing ok you no worry about me" crazy girl. But I do worry that her head will rot eventually with infection if she doesn't learn to control her ear cleaning fixation. I am going to make a concerted effort to get her to the doctor!!! fw1
Have to admit that I once had one of my ears syringed. It was a wonderful experience. A ton of wax came out, improving my hearing no end, and walking along the street with a wet ear, feeling the wind blow on my eardrum for first time since birth was a sensation I have never forgotten... . That medicine I spoke about before is called "sofradex". Do a google for description etc. You may be able to buy it across the counter at a pharmacy rather than getting a precription from a MD. I'd personally recommend it from your description of her symptoms. Having said that, I'm not a doctor!

BPH is expensive, but it's good.
MistaDorn
dude, I forgot to tell you something, ear problem is a bit dangerous. one thing that happened to me is I've got dizzy and the world is spinning, I can't even move, my legs getting weak I just cannot open up my eyes, or if I then it is spinning. Doctor said may cause problem on ear. it is just like "Migraine". But since then I never get that painful time again. so if she said OK OK OK. then it will not be OK. she don't know what will happen or if she used to get headache then I can tell you that earing thing. so better take her there even she said it's OK OK. Apart from any itching I am certain this is also part of the thai lady obsession with cleanliness which I suspect might precede the itching, it then becomes an obsessive habit, and I am sure will end up with serious damage. It should be heartily discouraged and introducing a doctor may bring some necessary authority to the subject.
Ijustwannateach
Btw, Tukyleith, yellow-green is never a good color to see in bodily discharges- she may have some lurking infection that could be a big problem later. Get your lady to a doctor!
