Englishman collapases, dies in Rawai

RAWAI, PHUKET: An Englishman living in Phuket collapsed and died of apparent heart failure at a pharmacy in Rawai on Wednesday afternoon.

According to witnesses, 59-year-old John Powell entered the pharmacy to buy some medicine but then collapsed.

Chalong Police were notified of the death at about 3:30pm.

They rushed to the scene, a pharmacy in the Baan Saiyuan residential estate, with rescue workers from the Phuket Ruamjai Kupai Foundation.

There they found Mr Powell’s body, lying face up and surrounded by onlookers, both foreigners and Thais.

Mr Powell’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The British Embassy has been informed of Mr Powell’s death.

There were no signs of foul play and police suspect heart failure as the cause of death.

The case is still under investigation, police said. spacer.gif– Siangtai Daily

It's a bummer nobody knows CPR. It's not that difficult and could probably have kept this guy going until the ambulance showed up.

Also, I know a lot of people in this neighborhood but cannot place a face to the name. Did anyone here know Mr. Powell?

RIP John
