A couple of questions relating to termite control. Has anyone had experience with

1) the termite baiting station systems that are available in Thailand?

2) the reticulation systems, (pipes installed under the ground floor during construction, for later termiticide injection)?

3) comparisons of the two -- which is more effective?

Thank you very much,

Since no one has responded yet.....

I have the reticulation system, let my contract expire, and, about a year later, ended up with a closet being eaten out to the point where only paint was left. Since the house is all cement, cinder block, and tile and there were no trails or obivous access point(s), I assumed they came up from underneath. The closet did happen to be the closest point to the ground outside (a garden, at that), but was also just above one of the reticulation pipes.

Renewed the contract, which includes yard spraying, but still finding the little buggers under rocks and coming up out of the gound building dirt tunnerls up trees (specially during the rainy season). Am I keeping them out of the house? I hope so, but do not know for sure. But I like the thought of periodically injecting poison into the dirt below the house.

I did finally realize the kids spraying outside get more on the plants around the house than gets on the ground, so I am getting a "supervisor" out next time to to make sure they saturate the house perimeter.

I have heard of the baiting stations, if those are the ones that inject the bait into the ground at different places. I, too, would like more info. But I intuitively think their effectivity would be limited to the immediate area where they are located so have not actively persued getting the info.

Doesn't really answer your question, does it?

I don't believe it's against forum rules to mention pantip. There is currently a thread about termites there, we were just talking about it with my wife this morning, with a lot of technical information about the solution available in Thailand

Hello again, folks. I'm a bit embarrassed. One is supposed to search a site first before posting. Well, I did -- but didn't find much. I must have done something wrong. Anyway, a (proper) search of ThaiVisa turns up a number of threads, and leads, if you follow the links.

"noise" -- I think some of those will help answer your questions. Also, I found VERY helpful was a search on YouTube. It has LOTS of short termite-related videos, including how baiting is done. Also, a few Google searches did turn up good info.

In fact, as long as we're here, here's one YT link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw3IVPptcew...feature=related

"Pierrot" -- Thank you for the Pantip tip, I will follow it.

Termite Traps

I had bait stations in Australia

They were just PVC Pipe about 100mm Diam about 300 long with a cap on 1 end that can be removed the proper PVC cap is the way to go

all you do is burie them in your garden leaving about 50mm sticking out the cap end then fill them up with rolled up cardboard ie an old cardboard box

Have a few of them around your garden check them once a week if there are any termites in them have your house checked

This is all we had

Hope that helps
