A couple weeks ago I got a 3Mbps line put in. TTT maxnet. It worked great for three days with actual 3Mbps download speeds from US servers on speedtest. Went away for a week and came back. Now the ADSL and internet lights on the modem take turns flashing, holding stead for a few minutes, turning off completely and then repeating this over and over. I tried another brand modem with the exact same results. During the time that the lights hold steady I can get online but speeds are about a third of what they once were.

This happened 24 hours ago and I finally gave up. 12 hours later and everything seemed back to normal. 12 more hours and all the same problems.

From the symptoms I have described, would you say this is a problem with the phone line, both modems or what?

I'm really, really sick of the Internet in this country. I can't believe I'm paying nearly US$100 a month and still it doesn't work.

I called TT&T. Same old story. Took my phone number. Said someone will call me..... someday.

Posting this from the wireless Internet in my apartment with advertised 'high speed internet':

Called TT&T again. They sent a guy who said nothing is wrong. I get home tonight - exact same problem. Why the f##k is a reliable internet connection so hard to come by in this country?

... because they do not have the necessary infrastructure! It will take 'ages' to achieve "western" standards. Thats MHO

I have a Biz account at the office and was getting 20-30 kbps (not Kbps) uploads for 2 days last week, absolutely unusable for an office of 8-10 staff. These problems are definitely limited to the cheap accounts

The latency ("ping") in your screenshot is way to slow. The latency is the time it takes for a packet of data to do the roundtrip from your computer -> Salt Lake City server -> and come back.

* Click Start > Run

* Enter in (without quotes) "cmd" and press enter (your command window should now be open)

* In the command windows type (without quotes) "tracert 198.60.22.4" and press enter

* Copy and paste the result here.

perhaps its being throttled by maxnet? 12hours its good then 12 hours later its bad.

Speed results good in the last poster at 06:00ish but then yours bad at 2000

IMO, the ADSL light going between flashing and being steady on means phone line problems.

Is the period of bad service always the same? i.e. bad when the sun goes down and better again in the morning?

Can be a faulty streetlight somewhere close to your phoneline...

Wireless You won't get the same speed as you will with a direct conection

It's still Crap but should be better if you go the direct wire route.

Speeds are down to bandwidth so time of day, Heavy usage = SLOW

I use TTT Maxnet Cheapest package 3Mbs mostly OK Western Standards No Chance OR Silly Money
