Thailand arrests Japanese man wanted in Japan for child offenses

BANGKOK: -- A Japanese man wanted by a Japanese court on child pornography offenses was arrested at his home in northern Thailand's Chiang Mai Province on Tuesday, Thai police said.

Hirokazu Nishioka, 38, has been wanted by a court in Sendai, in northern Japan, since December 2007. He allegedly sent child pornography movies, in the form of digital video discs, by post to various cities in Japan between February and June 2007, according to Thai police.

BANGKOK (AP) — A Japanese man wanted by a Japanese court on child pornography offenses was arrested at his home in northern Thailand's Chiang Mai Province on Tuesday, Thai police said.

Hirokazu Nishioka, 38, has been wanted by a court in Sendai, in northern Japan, since December 2007. He allegedly sent child pornography movies, in the form of digital video discs, by post to various cities in Japan between February and June 2007, according to Thai police.

Thai officials said Japanese authorities placed a request for Nishioka's arrest several months ago,

Thailand's Crime Suppression Division is conducting an investigation to determine if Nishioka has committed any wrongdoing in Thailand. Thai police have seized his personal computer.

Initial police investigation shows Nishioka has overstayed his visa in Thailand.

He is reportedly living with his Thai wife in Chiang Mai's Hang Dong District.
