Hi All

Firstly thank you for stoping by,

were both Flying on UK Passports;

We intend to fly to Bangkok on the 1st of November and return on the 10th of January, which is roughly 9 weeks in Thailand, I have read that I can get a 60 day tourist visa from the UK Thai Embassy London before we leave, Which we intend to do, and once in Thailand you can get a 15 day extension to that 60 day visa, a total of 75 days in Thailand,

hopefully I have read correctly and the above is correct(please could anyone just confirm on the above for peace of mind),

however I have a few questions which I cannot find the answer to

1; If I buy a flight ticket from the 1st Nov - till 10th Jan, and only have a 60 day visa - will I get refused entry to Thailand on arrival? or before I board the plane? - how would I explain myself to immigration in this situation? would they expect tourists to enter the country then extend the visas? is this normal practise?, or would they expect you to enter the country with an out flight within 60 days, even if you want to stay longer?

2: assuming we past immigration, can we extent the 60 days visa for an extra 15 days any time whilst in Thailand? or would we have to wait till the present visa is expiring? - my plan is to get the visa extension from bangkok then go down south and not worry about visa's any more.

3; if we wanted to stay longer than 75 days, would the only way be the visa run, for an extra 15 days.

Thanks for reading, any help would be appectiated, Ive read so much that most of what I read is either outdated, or contradicting other information I have read,

You might just get refused, but more likely, the airline might refuse you boarding. The same goes if you try to fly to thailand with a passport which will expire less than six months from the date of entry to Thailand.

Best thing is to buy a low-fare Air Asia or similar ticket to SIN or PEN or somewhere like that within your trip and it shows that you are leaving Thailand, after which you can reenter without a visa for 30 days.

Unless there ha s been a recent rule change, you do not need a return flight ticket if you have a visa.

DO NOT apply to the Thai Embassy for a visa. The Embassy is not user friendly.

Apply by post to Hull, very easy. You can apply for a non immigrant "O" at the Thai consulate in Hull and can get 90 days in Thailand with no need to extend.

Everything you need to know is at the Thai Consul Hull website - click on link below

If you have a visa of any type a return or onward ticket is not required.

They are getting a tourist visa valid for 60 day and then can get a 30 extension at immigration.

They don't need to fly out and back to get another 30 days.

Agree. Tourist Visa from Hull. Extend at Immigration for 30 days for a fee of 1,900 Baht.

Unless the OP is planning some excursions into neighbouring countries, a non immigrant "O" is easy to get and they will get 90 days in Thailand, enough for the length of their stay without the need to go to immigration for the 30 day extension with the tourist visa.

OP, if you download the forms for the visa pack from the link in my previous post, it really is very easy. Please note that the non immigrant "O-A" is NOT the one you need, this is for retirees.

Are you are planning to visit Laos or Cambodia and return through a land border? If so, your visa stay will be cancelled and you will only get 15 days visa exempt entry when you return to Thailand. You can get a re-entry permit to keep your visa valid or it may be better to get a double entry tourist visa before you come if you are going to exit Thailand during your stay.

Thanks for the link to the Thai Embassy in Hull - however on the link you posted I cannot find the OP visa application form, Could you either post the direct link to the form or point me in the right direction of where to find it - I have been all over that website and still cannot find the form,

thanks for your help so far -

OP = Original Poster

What you want is a non immigrant O visa. Single entry if total stay is 90 days or less - multi entry if you plan to visit often for longer period (valid for one year of travel).

Sorry to have confused you with the "OP". Of course not everyone, especially newbies to forums will know what it means.

Anyway, UbonJoe has given you the link now.

Happy holidays :)

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the people who have pointed me in the the right direction - I would have gone for a tourist visa and be doing the border run otherwise -
