Retiring In Thailand

Featured Replies

:) Can anyone give me the full SP on retiring in Thailand, can i just get

a 90 day visa from a consulate in the UK. & then start doing the visa runs,

or do you have to have proof of a set amount in a thai bank, & do you have to produce a `Subject Access Report`, & all the other details. Cheers Bri... :D

Agreed, I would suggest once you have done some research and decided on a specific visa strategy that you post again and ask for more SPECIFIC advice. I think your OP is just too broad.

You can a get a multiple entry non immigrant O visa from the consulate in Hull.

No proof of income, money in the bank or anything else. Just fill out the forms in this visa package and send them along with your passport and 2 photos. http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads/Ab%...tion%20Pack.doc

Then do border runs every 90 days.

Visa runs are a major pain, and are well worth avoiding if you can. Especially if you are staying here long term anyway.

In a nutshell, there are three ways to qualify for a retirement Non-Immigrant O-A visa (assuming you are over 50, which is a requirement). This must be done in your home country by applying for your visa with the Thai Consulate there:

1) On the basis of your savings. If you can prove you have at least the equivalent of 800,000 baht in any bank in your home country you can qualify.

2) Or on the basis of your monthly income. If you can prove you receive the equivalent of at least 65,000 baht received every month you can qualify.

3) Or as a last resort, on a combination of both savings and income. Multiply your monthly income by 12 and add your savings. If that exceeds 800,000 baht, you qualify.

There are other criteria, such as having no criminal record or certain health conditions (TB for example), etc. Check into those as well but I believe I have accurately mentioned the financial requirements.

Also, for your annual extension of stays you will need to continue to meet the above financial requirement beyond your first year here.

Good luck obtaining your visa and living here.
