Hp Pavillion Dv6000 Series Note Book - Any Problems?

Featured Replies

Has anyone else experienced problems with this model?

In calls it self an "entertainment PC" - but it has been anything but.

I know - it has Vista Home Pro and all sorts of Media crap on it, but basically it has never worked properly.

slow, freezing, shutting programs etc etc.

IMO the machine and the software are incompatible.

I don't think HP should ever have put it one the market.

What are your experiences of HP Pavillions???

What are your experiences of HP Pavillions???

I have a DV7 series purchased here just under a year ago. Zero problems. But then the first thing I do with a new PC is reload it the way I want, without the 'convenience' items vendors love to throw on.

I suspect that the 6 series was released too quickly and HP decided to leave on the market until they had a replacement.

I also think that to release a product thatwon't work unless you remove all the "convenience" items - is to say the least dishonest - it should have worked as a laptop - I reckon it has cost me about 30minutes to an hour in wasted time every day I use it

I've got a dv6000 which I bought from a mate a year ago, for the first month it was a nightmare as it kept freezing when you tried to play DVD's or movies and the message was the nvidia video card was wrong, in the end I took it to tukcom and they sent it to HP in chonburi, A week or so later it came back problem fixed, 1000bht tp pay. apparently they renewed the video card etc.

I'm buying a Dell or a Mac shortly and would like to publicly destroy my Pavillion - any suggestions where? (How - I thought a lump-hammer!)

@ TVmonitor

If the problem with my screen persists or even gets worse, I would be looking for a new screen. I have a Pavilion dv6000...

Do you have the same PC? Would you be interested in selling it?

You have got it all wrong - lose M$ Virus O/S!!

BR>Jack

Are you referring to me? What do you mean with your post??

Hi.

What he means, and right he is, instead of destroying the poor machine in public just kick Vista in the butt and install Linux. The machine will have a second life.

Alternative give it to me and i will install Linux :) I want a laptop anyway.

Best regards.....

Has anyone else experienced problems with this model?

I bought this model over 2 yrs ago in Pantip. Came with Vista. Actually its a dv6220dx but says dv6000 on the screen cover. The first problem I had straight out the box was Norton Security software. I removed that, replaced it with another a/v and the performance improved no end. Besides that I have added the RAM to max (2GB), installed a faster 320GB 7200rpm hd and it has been very good to me ever since. I haven't ever been disappointed with it. Vista has never crashed or needed re-install and all the updates have installed effortlessly (with a decent net connection). Even last month it automatically updated the bios for me for first time ever after over two yrs, within windows. My most dependable laptop to date. Previously I have owned a Compaq, Dell, TI and Toshiba - all been good to me but needed to upgrade over the yrs.

It seems that all those with "no problems" have had to make modifications to the product they bought.

My contention is that I didn't buy a hobbie to modify in my spare time - I bought a laptop computer fro computing - and irt just doesn't do it in a manner that the price and specification would suggest.

I have HP Pavilion 6 series.

Got over the slow issue by upgrading RAM and changing to XP when I bought it.

But the motherboard has conked out twice now in less than 2 years.

Someone told me that in this model/series the board is not located near the fan as in other brands - is that correct?

To have 2 boards go is just inconceivable (first was under guarantee).

Seems that it is a dud...unless modifications are made.

I've met with HP management and they have agreed to look it over - however I'm not sure that they will come up with anything as I think it is the basic CORRECT set up that is so crap.

Your HP laptop is probably to do with this, see my post :

HP and faulty Nvidia chips

Mine has packed out after 18 months and was fixed at least 4 times since new; all it seems stems from this chip (Nvidia Geforce 8 series). I have been in contact with HP Bangkok and will now get in contact with HP head office because this is simply ridiculous . What makes it even worse is for the shop to not tell you about this fault. But when you do your homework and confront them they know all about it, makes it more like deception.

A Mac it is then.

Linux, enjoy editing some text files before anything works.

Windows, remove all the crapware. I hear that Sony has a $50 option to remove crapware before you buy though. All those "free" trials - turns out they pay the PC manufacturers to annoy you.

With problems like this on a branded computer the best option is a visit to the manufacturers service centre.

HP=rubbish, need I say more... :)

I bought a Dell inspiron 15 months ago, and have been very happy with everything (no problems at all). I got the missus a Dell inspiron (13 inch) 6 months ago and that has been perfect too.

I highly recommend them (my first experience with Dell). Both have Vista and McAfee loaded as standard, plus 1 year phone and onsite warranty. The missus is forever pisssing around with stupid downloadable s/w and the dell support centre has kept her going problem free no matter how hard she tries to slow down and infect her laptop...

A word on the McAfee: my uni is full of infected computers, and I download to / from students thumbdrives on a daily basis; many of which they tell me are infected - never had a hint of a problem. McAfee has been outstanding for me. No doubt some geek will dispute everything I say, but that's my experience with Dells bought in Pantip... cheap too for the spec (cheaper than Toshiba and HP at the same spec).
