Is anyone here familiar with Thai jewelry made from corals and similar materials? I have a private collection of such jewelry made in Cebu, Philippines. Where can I find them for sale in Bangkok and for how much? I saw one coral necklace going for 2,500 baht in IT Mall. Is that typical or a "tourist trap"? I would like to havve an idea as to a fair price.

My wife is collecting ancient Thai beads, with a focus on Dhavaravati Empire area.

If your stones have any kind of historical interest; feel free to PM me.

Be very careful of transporting coral across international borders as it in now a protected species in many countries and uless you can prove it to be over a certain age you'll be in trouble! Most of the new red coral about comes from China and you will find pieces made from this in the jewellers and gem dealers shops in the Bang Rak area of Bangkok.

These are about 20 years old. I've verified with the Philippine authorities and they said it's OK to export them out of the country, though they said the destination country may impose limits on how many you can bring. Most of these are not coral, but stone, metal and shell. I didn't want to sell them but just to lighten my luggage, I need to dispose of them or else send them back to family in the Philippines. I'm married and retired. :)
