My wife attends a meditation gathering each week where there are a few dozen or more people gathered together for several hours.

Would you advise giving it a miss inlight of latest swine flue situ?

Nope.

Elaberate :)

I am more worried about the BTS and all the greasy handles / poles / straps and close proximity of people during rush hours.

Greasy poles???!!! Still talking about the BTS - or do you mean the run-down go-go bar in Soi Cowboy you frequent? :)

Speaking of which, it's about that time isn't it?

Why avoid gatherings?

Swine flu is not lethal in the greatest majority of cases. Ordinary flu currently kills more people than swine flu does. The fact it is listed as a Pandemic is not because of its potency but the rate it is spreading at.

Besides, Thailand has hardly seen a case of swine flu according to the powers that be :)

Anyway, when have you seen a Thai stop working because they have a cold or the flu? They love to share it with everyone who comes near them. I am sure they think that if someone else gets the flu that they then lose it :D

Chai Chai, and then they come and sit on your lap.

It's a case of the media not letting the truth get in the way of a good story. Of the hundreds of thousands infected only 150 died. Chances are they where not in good health to start with.
