Import Fee?

Featured Replies

How much is the impoert fee in thailand?

I want to send 150kg off cloths (that I have got from friends free) to a orphange.

Send via the postal service, economy freight. Declare gift and minimal value. Don't send by FedEx, DHL, etc. as they will charge you duty.

This is a curly one, elektrified is correct in that using fed ex will draw the attention of customs. I suggest that you obtain a letter from the Thai orphanage , and they must be a registered Thai Foundation, with the usual tax exempt status. 150 KG is an awfull lot of clothes. I suggest that your new best friend will be a Thai Customs Agent. Expect to pay him or her for services, but they may be able to smooth the way through Customs.Otherwise they may slug you for 50% of the value that they assess the clothes to be worth.

Good Luck with this one.

If you are donating them I would suggest asking the orphanage how to send them. I should think they would be duty free as they are a gift.

Kemp,

I'd be grateful if you could let us know through these forums how this turns out for you.

Thanks and good luck.

I have decided not to anything because no one can anwser me excatly how much the tax will be. It is very hard to tell how much 150 kg off used cloths would cost. If I would buy the cloths in norway I will maybe pay 200 bath for 1 t shirt, and that is what a new tshirt cost in thailand. So then there is no profit to send them in cargo.

But I am looking for a opertunity to send it in packeges true the post office :)

I'm moving this to General since it is not Chiangmai specific.

Go out to the airport. Just past the terminal entrance is the cargo entrance. All the way to the right, go up the stairs and ask one of the nice Thai ladies how much is the import duty on used clothing. This is the Chiang Mai branch of the customs office and they can be very helpful. By the way, might be easier and cheaper to send them air freight but you might need an agent to clear them. Many helpful agents hanging around at the bottom of the stairs. If you send them UPS or regular mail you will just have to pay the duty upon arrival either at your home or at the post office.

somebody just told you that the import duty is 50% - (+some other charges) so...if you talk to an export agent in your home country he will advise you - state that it is second hand and has a low value.the final adress should be the orphanage (not a falang like you) - it would just sound like a good excuse importing clothes in your name and saying that it is for an orphanage - if the orphanage does the importation i am 99% sure that it will come out very cheap

good luck
