I'm going to buy a new car next month. But what I would really like to do is lease one. ie, pay low or no down payment, a monthly payment that includes everything, then in 3 years return the vehicle and get a new one along the same scheme. It's common in the States if your credit is good, but can it be done here?

Huey, know that companies can lease vehicles here, but cant say I have ever seen this being offered to individuals may be wrong, Even if availible cant see you getting it for zero or low down payment..best of luck in your search, maybe try BMW or Mercedes, if anybody does it, it would be these two

long term rental is what's available. Is similar to leasing. A Vios can be had for as little as 12k/month. My company rents Camry for me on a 1-year contract at 38500/month.

That just about answers you question

With rates like that...............they must be having a laugh

Leaving aside the rates quoted above, check out the larger Thai car hire companies.

They will offer yearly rates, often with a brand new car.

Go down to Pattaya Beach or Phuket - have work permitt in hand or retirement visa or whatever, and have a word with any of the guys on the beach who rent cars - most will be more than happy to arrange a pickup or car of your choice on a long term contract, if they know you are here for the long run and you are happy to put a 2 or 3 month deposit down.

I know an ex-pat who rented a 4x4 Totyota Tiger like this for 3 years at around Baht 20K a month - avoiding the big brqandname hirers.

As for Beemers and Mercs - forget it, they silly silly money to rent.
