Certifying Documents With Mfa To Obtain Thai Birth Certificate

Featured Replies

I'll be coming out to Bangkok on July 1 and I've got to get a couple of documents that need to translated from English to Thai, and then certified with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These documents are my USA birth certificate (DS-1350), and Consular Report of Birth Abroad from Thailand (FS-240). I'm in the process of trying to get my Thai birth certificate. Long story, but my Thai mother never documented me when I was born so I only have a USA birth certificate. She will help me to obtain my Thai one when we go back to Thailand in January. I'm just trying to get as much documentation ready as I can. The Thai consulars in Los Angeles told me to take these documents to the MFA in Thailand. My question is: What is the process of getting my DS-1350 and FS-240 certified by the MFA? I'm very confused.

The translation is what needs to be certified.

Suggest you select a good translation company for the translation. They can also handle the certification.

This page on the US embassy that relates to getting married has some good info about getting a translation certified.

There is also a link for a list of translators (#5 is good). http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service/marriage.html

Is there any need for us to go to the US embassy to look at the documents? The documents I have are the original FS-240 CRBA issued at the time of my birth in Thailand and a birth certificate both with raised seals.

Could not hurt with a stamp saying "US embassy".

When I got married they insisted that I must have a "embassy stamp".

Is it necessary to make an appointment with the Embassy to get this done, or do they have walk-in service for this type of situation? And what is it I'm supposed to ask for? Is asking them for a US embassy certification stamp for my birth certificate and CRBA clear enough?

Your translations should be performed by a MFA certified translation agency.
