Are there different types, with or without a national or local goverment license etc, or commercial ones. What are there different ways to get one ? Only possible for nationals and foreign residents with or without workpermit, and what are options for a non-resident who accompany a group in Thailand ?

The only officially recognized tourist guide licenses are issued by the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) and they are for Thai Nationals only.

are you familiar with those regulations regarding tourism ?

I am not talking about a tour-guide licence (I know that this isn't possible), but all other laws and regulations in the tourism business.

since long time I tried to get hold of more reliable information, but no success.

is there anything printed and published in English ?

I did some research on the subject a few years ago for my last Girlfriend, as her English was pretty good... But then we broke up. :)

I have a good friend whose Boyfriend is a tourguide now.

My wife's sister has her tourguide license. (Lucky she got it a while ago. She could never get it now. Her English is terrible!)

It's been a while, but if you look hard enough, there is some info on-line.... Try the TAT website.

Also there are not too many universities that give the required course, if I remember correctly.

Things may have changed.

But.. Bottom Line.... IF you are NOT Thai, you can't be a Tourist Guide. It's a reserved profession for Thai people. (See Dept of Labor website)

The best you may be able to do is to Own a Tourist/Travel Agency.. But you can't guide... Maybe you can't even own the agency.

I'm not sure.

There are some old threads on this somewhere. The tour guide laws are set to change in 2010 or so according to old agreements made long ago. Having the law though does not necessarily mean anyone issuing licenses will give seekers a fair deal.
