Stone Table Experts

Featured Replies

I guess we've all encountered this type of expat.

Sitting around at the 7-11 complaining, moaning, whinging how dumb Thai people are.

Constantly going on about behaviour of the locals usually with a negative and condescending tone.

Mind you myself I am in no way walking around with rose colored glasses and after many years here do realize there are some behaviour problems in Thai culture. Still I tend to keep it to myself, if we like it or not we will always be guests here and should show at least some respect to our hosts.

If this "elite" :) group of expats would actually come up with some solutions to what they perceive as "problems" with Thai behaviour they might make a difference.

One thing I have noticed about these expats is that most of them are of lower education, that might have something to do with their negativity and lack of self esteem which they out by feeling superior of their hosts.

This research was done by going out "in the field" :D and experiencing it myself.

Anyway just want to see some reactions from other expats or other "stone table" experts.

My opinon, there are a lot of farangs here who try and play the "old colonianal" and its their "god-given" right to comment on the behaviour of the "natives"

Disagree with education statement side of things...more to do with "low class" in their own country...."low class in Thailand"....education/money doesnt give you "class"...once a scum bag always a scum bag...

It's either an education issue or as you mention low class, fully agree on the class issue. Why I mentioned education is because the successful expats don't tend to hang out in front of 7-11's.

It's fine to play the old colonial but no need to feel superior.

Who are they anyway? God's gift to Thailand?
