7" Portable Lcd Tv, Will It Work?

Featured Replies

Hi

Could you tell me if these mini TV's will work in Thailand please.

Would like to buy the GF one for her Birthday and would hate to buy it for it not to work

Regards

Try it first. The quality varies from not bad to unusable.

There is insufficient information in the advert to be sure.

It will certainly work on AV input however it is unclear whether it has the required VHF tuner and correct flavour of PAL (TH is not the same as UK) for it to work properly off-air.

Personally I wouldn't risk it, you can get similar units here which will work :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

PAL 1 & 2 will both work, but I might simply be better to purchase a TV in Thailand, so that she can handle the warranty or repairs without having to mail it to the UK.

Freeview won't work because Thailand doesn't yet have terrestrial digital TV. The analog receiver probably will work because I think this uinit is German and Thailand uses the same standard as most Western European countries PAL B (VHF) and G (UHF). The UK is PAL A/I (VHF) and I (UHF) . Many TV sets will do both flavours of PAL, What I would do if I was interested is ask to see the user manual in Lidl, flick though to the specifications page and see what kind of PAL it will do. If you have your heart set on this kind of TV also take a look at Maplin electronics and see what they have on offer.

This one comes in at a lower price and has wide screen too. (search for voucher code to get extra off). If the specs are not clearly specified for other models you can ask for extra information on Maplin's website. However, Crossy is right in saying you will get something similar in Pantip Plaze or MBK, and probably for less. TVs are one of the (few?) electrical items that are cheaper in Thailand. Probably the only advantage with Lidl is that the 3 year guarantee is very good and is unusual without extra cost. Also remember that the UK will be switching off analog TV imminently, so expect lots of bargains in small LCD TVs that don't have Freeview built in.

My Father in the UK gave me a Television very similar to the one in the ad but mine is a ' Maxim ' (brand).

It works perfectly, mine is excellent, I am very pleased with it.

Thank you for your Help, The Maplin TV looks good.

Not so keen on buying in Thailand, bought something from BMK and i had a problem, The salesman would not give me the time of day, Lidis TV has a good warranty thats worth hassle free life.

Once again Thank you

Malc
