My Thai gf is coming to Australia for the second time next Tuesday night and will spend 3 months here.

My question relates to an issue that has come up today. Without going into the detail, someone has written 'void' across a page in her passport in an attempt to stop her coming and sabotage her trip.

1. Can she travel on a passport that has been damaged in such a way?

2. How long will it take to get a replacement passport in BKK?

3. The damage to her passport was done by an American visiting there. Is it illegal what he did?

I will follow up the questions with immigration etc tomorrow, but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

Not sure if it is now void, but she might need to answer questions about it. I would take it serious and ask both the Thai and Australian government about this. It might also depend on which page it ws written.

A replacement passport will take about 4 to 5 days and costs 1,000 baht plus 30 or 35 baht to have it send home and seems like the savest route.

He dameged a passport, not sure if a Thai passport is government property like in most countries. He might have a problem there if reported to the police.

Ok, thanks for the feedback.

I will be following up the Australian end tomorrow, and she will go to the embassy or wherever they issue passports in Thailand tomorrow too.

I am hoping they will fix it within 24 hours as she can prove she has a ticket to leave on Tuesday night.

What a pain.

Voided or cancelled passports are usually rubber stamped....not written.....however, in order to save any unecessary hassles it would be an idea to get it replaced.

it is illegal to damage or deface a passport AFIK.

I just finished a pleasant trip and returned to my apartment here in Bangkok, threw my things into the washer and relaxed. First thing that popped out of the washer when it was finished, was my passport, complete with TM form and 90 report. The passport manged to dry out reasonably well, albeit with some cracks in the cover but the TM departure card and the 90 day report are a mess (although the relevant parts are still discernible - barely)..

Wonder if I should go get a new passport (the old one still had a couple of years on it) and maybe go get replacement forms for the ruined ones. Hate to get to the airport for an unexpected trip and go through a hassle. Any suggestions, anyone - Thanks!
