LawnGnome
Hi Friends, I work here at Mahidol University's College of Music and play in the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (the best orchestra in Bangkok, in case you hadn't heard). One of the claims made regarding attending concerts here at our Salaya campus was the distance from central Bangkok. It could take up to an hour and a half to travel here, fighting through city traffic. That has changed now, with the opening of the BTS extension to Thonburi. Just opened now is a new shuttle bus service that links the BTS Wongwianyai station (use exit number 4) with our Mahidol University campus, direct to the College of Music. Its about a 25 minute journey, and the traffic makes that time pretty consistent. Now you can come join us for TPO concerts, and all of the other musical events hosted at our College. Fare is 25 baht one way. Hope to see you here! http://www.music.mahidol.ac.th http://www.music.mahidol.ac.th/salayalink/ LG
BangkokJazz
I have used this service several times, and can say without question that the TPO is the best orchestra going in Thailand. Regular quality concerts and a nice enjoyable evening. They also have a great new restaurant as well.
londonthai
it will be another 10 years (if we are lucky), before the long time promissed fast, integrated train will come to salaya.
BangkokJazz
You are probably right, but that has nothing to do with this topic. I can see that the large amount of classical music lovers in Thailand are flocking to this discussion. lol
harrry
I would be interested in comming however everytimne I have tried to attend things like that they are innacessible to wheelchairs. Is your venue any different now I can get there by train.
BangkokJazz
It's not my venue, and its not accessible by train - the shuttle bus runs between the end of the BTS and the College. However, I believe that auditorium at Mahidol does have wheelchair ramps (that I recall seeing).
